After I Stopped Loving Him novel Chapter 166

“Isabella’s had it tough enough just being tricked into marrying you. Stop pointing fingers at her all the time. Try seeing things from her side for once.”

Ethan suddenly asked, “Jesse, have you ever felt like Isabella’s just… different lately?”

Jesse shrugged. “I barely know her. We’ve only met a few times. She seemed normal to me. Why do you ask?”

There was a pause. Ethan finally said, “Forget it. I’ve had a bit to drink, and I’m feeling sleepy. I’m gonna hang up now.”

He ended the call, leaving his suspicions about Isabella unsaid. When he thought back to when he first started chasing her, she hadn’t been like this. He’d always believed her change was because he’d hurt her, telling her the truth about their marriage. It never even crossed his mind that there could be something more to it, some sort of scheme.

That night, Ethan barely slept. He kept tossing and turning, unable to settle. By the middle of the night, he felt even worse. His cold still hadn’t cleared up, and the alcohol just made things worse. With his mood tanking, his cold hit him harder than ever. Maybe it was the fever, but right before dawn, he finally managed to fall asleep.

While Ethan struggled through the night, Isabella slept like a baby. She woke up naturally, scrolled through her phone in bed, checking out the latest news and trends, then took her time getting ready. She washed up, changed, and headed downstairs for breakfast.

As Isabella’s footsteps echoed down the stairs, Susan came out from the dining room, setting breakfast on the table. Ethan was always picky, so Susan planned his meals down to the last detail. Isabella, on the other hand, was easy. A bowl of congee and some simple side dishes was enough for her. If Susan made a bigger spread, Isabella seemed to enjoy it even more.

Whatever Isabella’s background was, Susan actually found her pretty easy to please. She never acted stuck-up or demanded special treatment. Maybe it was because Isabella had always lived an ordinary life, with not much money, hanging out with regular people. She was grounded, so she never put on an act.

“Good morning, Isabella.”
