After I Stopped Loving Him novel Chapter 182

Ethan couldn’t help himself. He fired off a voice message, his tone dripping with disbelief. “Isabella, could you be any stingier? When I send you money, it’s always tens of thousands. And you? You send me two hundred bucks. What am I, a beggar?”

Isabella shot back right away. “I only give beggars a couple of dollars. Two hundred could send a hundred beggars on their way. Isn’t that plenty? Besides, how could I possibly compete with you? You’re worth billions, and I’m just scraping by. When you’re in a good mood, you give me spending money. When you’re not, you start talking about cutting me off. Living with my hand out like this feels suffocating. That’s why I’m determined to make my own money.”

Once she had her own, she could spend it however she wanted. Nothing beat having money of your own.

Ethan stared at her message in silence. His family had been pushing him to cut back on her allowance, but he hadn’t gone through with it. Was her life really that tough? She didn’t live with Jennifer anymore, so nobody was giving her a hard time. She had a huge villa, drove luxury cars, lived the kind of life most people only dreamed about.

To keep his blood pressure in check, Ethan decided not to reply. Isabella’s words were sharp enough to give him a headache.

Still, he accepted the two hundred dollars. No point in turning it down. At least she’d offered to buy him lunch. Maybe she did care in her own way.

He called his driver and asked him to bring over some takeout. Until the test results came back, he wouldn’t be leaving the hospital. The waiting was torture.

Was this Isabella really the woman he knew? If she wasn’t, how was he supposed to deal with her?

Ethan rubbed his temples, feeling the stress settle behind his eyes. He put away his phone, deciding not to message her again.
