“Don’t wait two or three years before having a baby. That’s way too long. If you go that long without kids, people will start thinking something’s wrong with you.”
Here we go again, Isabella thought. The same old pressure.
She sighed. “Jennifer, this really isn’t up to me.”
Jennifer waved her off. “You and Ethan need to stop sleeping in separate rooms. Snoring isn’t a big deal, you’ll get used to it. You have to share a bed every night if you want to get pregnant.”
Jennifer clearly thought Isabella was the one dragging her feet. But Isabella had her own way of shutting this down.
She leaned closer and lowered her voice. “Jennifer, you might laugh, but Ethan and I... we haven’t even done it yet. I’m basically living like a widow.”
Jennifer’s eyes went wide. “What? Why?” She remembered how hard Ethan had chased after Isabella before the wedding, acting like he couldn’t live without her. And now, more than a month into their marriage, they still hadn’t slept together?
Isabella sat up, her expression cool and distant. “Because Ethan can’t.”
Jennifer almost yelped. She slapped a hand over her mouth, glancing around to make sure no one overheard. This was the sort of secret that could ruin a person.
She whispered, “How is that possible? Ethan’s always been so healthy. He works out every day, gets regular checkups. If something was wrong, wouldn’t he know?”
Isabella shook her head. “How could he admit something like that? And actually, you’re overthinking it. I don’t know if there’s anything physically wrong. He just… doesn’t know what to do. When it comes to that stuff, he’s completely clueless.”
