Ethan pulled into the parking lot at The Lane Group, the bag of pork ribs from the supermarket sitting on the seat beside him. He didn’t waste any time and headed straight inside.
Upstairs, Jordan’s secretary called through the intercom, “Mr. Adams is here.” Jordan didn’t hesitate. “Send him in.”
A moment later, the secretary knocked and led Ethan into the office. Jordan got up from his desk and walked over, wearing a friendly smile. “What brings you here?”
Ethan didn’t say a word. He went right to the sofa and dropped the bag of ribs onto the coffee table. The secretary glanced at his face, saw his mood, and realized things were tense. She quickly poured a glass of warm water for Ethan and slipped out, closing the door behind her.
Jordan pointed at the bag. “What’s all this?” He looked Ethan up and down. “You look terrible. Did you and Isabella argue again?”
He sat down beside Ethan, shaking his head. “Honestly, you spoil Isabella too much. You can’t let a woman get used to that, or she’ll start thinking she’s untouchable. She’s lucky to have married you, but you treat her like a queen, and it just makes her more stubborn. You know what happened? Natalie called her, just missing her, and Isabella snapped at her. Natalie got so upset her stomach started hurting, and she’s pregnant now. She really can’t be getting worked up.”
Ethan picked up the glass, took a slow sip, then shot Jordan a sideways look. His tone was flat, almost bored. “She’s busy. She doesn’t have time.”
Jordan frowned for a split second, then covered it with a small smile. “So Isabella refused to make Natalie her favorite BBQ ribs? Natalie called me earlier about it.”
