Ethan didn’t say a word. He knew exactly what the problem was. He had lied to her, tricked her into marrying him. That was the reason, plain and simple. But he couldn’t change it. The only way would be to let Isabella go, to give her her freedom. But he didn’t want that. He wanted to win her back, not lose her for good.
Keith kept talking. “He should try giving her more gifts, you know? Most women love things like flowers, jewelry, designer bags, fancy clothes. And if he really doesn’t know what to buy, just give her some money. Honestly, who can resist that?”
Ethan just sat there. He’d already done all of that, but Isabella still seemed to slip further away every day.
“But really, sincerity is what matters most. Tell your friend if he wants to fix things, he needs to own up to his mistakes. Then he has to show her he truly means it.”
Ethan’s voice was quiet. “What if the mistake can’t be fixed?”
Keith let out a long sigh. “Then he has to let her go. Give her freedom, keep things as peaceful as possible. With any luck, they could still be friends after everything.”
“Do they have kids? Because if they do, he shouldn’t fight her for custody. Let her take the children. That way, he’ll have a reason to still see her. Who knows, maybe there will be another chance one day.”
Ethan shook his head. “No kids yet.”
Keith nodded. “That makes it a little tougher. If they get divorced and she finds someone new, your friend probably won’t stand much of a chance.”
He paused, thoughtful. “She left because she was hurt. Why would she go back to the man who made her feel that way, especially if someone better comes along?”
Ethan looked down. “She already has a secret admirer. He hasn’t said anything outright, but it’s obvious if you pay attention. If they split up, I’m sure he’ll go after her right away.”
