The bookstore and café they were opening was still a work in progress, with renovations underway and only a little money spent so far. If their first drama ended up flopping, Laura knew she’d have to pull out. Her bank account was already running on empty. She just couldn’t keep throwing money at something that might never pay off.
Isabella wasn’t worried, though. She had Ethan backing her, and if there was one thing Ethan had plenty of, it was money. Even if she burned through everything, he’d just give her more. For Isabella, money was never something to stress about.
“I’m finally going to relax for a bit,” Isabella muttered as she stood and stretched her arms above her head. She slid back into her chair and rested her cheek on the table, already half-asleep. “Laura, can you send a message in the group chat later? I want to treat everyone to a nice dinner tonight. We should celebrate.”
Laura yawned as she fiddled with her phone, setting an alarm. She had two days’ worth of chapters lined up for automatic posting, but she still hadn’t written today’s update. She planned to nap until four and then get right back to work. That was just how it was as an author. No matter what else was happening in her life, updates were always in the back of her mind, every single day of the year.
“Sure, I’ll post in the group. I’ll also check in with Linda and Barbara, see if they want to come out with us,” Laura replied, but Isabella didn’t answer. Laura glanced over and couldn’t help but smile. Isabella was already sound asleep.
She got it. Even though she was used to late nights, right now she could barely keep her eyes open. After sending the messages, Laura followed suit. She folded her arms on the table and let herself drift off.
…
Over at The Lane Estate, Ethan drove up in his usual Maybach, choosing to come alone instead of bringing a driver. The family’s butler spotted him pulling in and hurried to open the gates.
He was there because Natalie had called him.
