After I Stopped Loving Him novel Chapter 60

Isabella pulled out her phone right away to accept the money transfer. There was nothing quite like the thrill of watching her balance jump with every payment.

Ethan wasn’t wrong. In this lifetime, her mission was simple. She wanted to get as much of his money into her account as possible and make the most of his status for her own gain. If he got to use her, why shouldn’t she use him too?

“From now on, you’re not allowed to yell at me or criticize me,” she said firmly. “You’re the one who owes me, not the other way around.”

“As long as you don’t piss me off, I won’t yell or criticize,” Ethan replied without missing a beat.

“You’ll be caught up in your business, I’ll be busy building mine. We’ll hardly cross paths. I won’t even get the chance to make you mad.”

Isabella finished accepting the transfer. She finally had enough to cover the renovation costs for her shop. Getting paid always felt so good.

“I might have to go to a banquet next week,” Ethan said. “You’ll come with me.”

“Do I get to say no?”

Isabella hated those events. She didn’t fit in, and the people in high society were all sharp and calculating. Everyone knew exactly where she stood in the Lane family, and being around her offered them nothing.

In her last life, Ethan never took her to banquets. He only ever wanted Natalie Gates by his side. If it wasn’t Natalie, then he’d go alone. So what was with him this time? Why was he suddenly asking her to go? Wasn’t he worried people would laugh at him for marrying a wife who brought nothing to his career?

“Why would you refuse? You’re my wife. If I’m going to a banquet, of course you should be there.”

Isabella pouted. Being his wife was the last thing she wanted.

A big hand reached out and gripped her chin, making her look him in the eye. He leaned in, his dark gaze intense. “Isabella Lane, listen to me. Unless I say we’re getting divorced, you are my wife. And as my wife, there are things you have to do.”
