After I Stopped Loving Him novel Chapter 86

Jordan rummaged through the medicine kit and finally found some fever medicine, but Natalie reached out, stopping him before he could hand it to Ethan.

“Let’s wait until the doctor gets here to check him out,” she said, calm and practical. “If he takes medicine now, it might affect the doctor’s diagnosis.”

Turning to the butler, she added, “Could you bring a wet towel? If we put it on Ethan’s forehead, he’ll feel a bit better.”

The butler nodded and hurried off. When he came back and gently placed the cool towel on Ethan’s forehead, Ethan stirred and slowly opened his eyes. He wasn’t passed out from the fever. He was just worn down from a rough, sleepless night. His head throbbed, and he’d only meant to rest his eyes, but he’d ended up drifting off.

Now, seeing Jordan and Natalie standing over him, Ethan blinked a few times, thinking he was dreaming. When he realized it was really them, he pushed himself upright, a little unsteady.

“Jordan, Natalie, you’re here,” he said, his voice still hoarse. “I must have fallen asleep. I barely slept last night.”

Jordan looked him over, concern creasing his brow. “You’ve got a high fever, Ethan. Your head must be pounding. I told you not to drink so much last night, but you wouldn’t listen. You had all that alcohol, then wandered out to the beach looking for Isabella, caught a chill, and now you’re sick. Where is Isabella, anyway? You’re lying here with a fever, but she’s nowhere to be seen.”

Ethan looked away, his voice a little strained. “She… we argued. She stormed out. I think she went to the beach.”

He hesitated, then added, “She wanted to call a doctor, but I refused. She started preaching at me, I lost my temper and snapped at her, and we ended up fighting.”
