Chapter 11
After the incident, the once–pristine reputation of the Shaw family plummeted to rock bottom. Someone in the military compound turned Ewan’s disgrace into a nursery rhyme. They even got children to sing it too.
The embarrassment didn’t stop at home. It followed him all the way to his commanding officer.
“I always thought you were the sharpest one. I never imagined you’d be the most foolish. You would ruin the military’s reputation all because of some petty romance. You were the only one on this year’s promotion list. Now you’ve ruined it,” the commanding officer said with a serious expression.
Feeling numb, Ewan left the military district only to be summoned again by his parents.
The moment he stepped into the house, Robert slapped him hard across the face, the blow so fierce it left his head spinning.
Before Ewan could grasp the situation, Robert snapped, “Did you cut ties with Nova?”
He didn’t even get the chance to respond before Robert continued, “Ewan, do you even have a conscience? Did you forget how Nova’s dad had saved your life on the battlefield? How could you repay that kind of favor in this way?”
Ewan went pale and trembled as he explained, “At that time, Wynter needed a kidney, and only Nova was a match. But her condition was that we cut ties, so1-”
Before Ewan could finish, Robert clutched his chest and interrupted, “Are you telling me that the kidney was Nova’s?”
Ewan nodded. Robert stared at him like he couldn’t recognize his own son. “Let me make one thing clear. Nova owed us nothing. If anything, our family has owed her from the start. And now, because she has no parents to defend her, you think you can just hurt and bully her however you want? “How am I supposed to face her parents when I die?”
Marilyn had been trying to calm Robert down, but she stopped when she heard what Ewan said. She looked at him with eyes full of disappointment. ” How could you hurt Nova for that woman? I can’t even imagine how much pain she must’ve gone through to agree to give up a kidney.”
