Sienna:
The office was quiet, save for the soft tapping of keys and the hum of the coffee machine in the corner. Damon wasn’t here today, something about needing to deal with a few matters that didn’t concern the company. He hadn’t elaborated, and I hadn’t asked.
I did not want to intervene, though I knew that others might have. I chose to give him his own privacy, just as I had my own.
It was odd not having him around. The silence made it easier to think. To breathe. It allowed me to understand everything that I now held on my shoulders, the weight of the responsibility that I carried.
To remind myself of who I was now. Remind myself that things were not going to be the same anymore, but I was now going to tell to be stronger, that I was going to need to stand as a Luna by his side.
My hand lifted to the scarf wrapped around my neck, fingers grazing over the soft fabric. Beneath it, the mark still tingled, a new sensation I hadn’t yet grown used to. It was a reminder of everything that had changed.
Of the man who changed everything.
Of the woman that I have become for that man, for my pack, for my daughter. The little angel that entered my life and changed everything.
A soft knock at the door was followed by it creaking open before I could respond.
I frowned as I caught a familiar scent. And the fact that they bothered walking inside without even being allowed in confused me. The secretary did not stop her, and I could tell that she might have wanted her, but she was too frightened. Or she simply did not listen.
Delilah…
She walked inside casually in her arms crossed over her chest as she looked out for me.
She wore that same calculated smile, polite enough to seem civil, but never reaching her eyes. She let the door close behind her as she walked in with deliberate steps, eyes sweeping over the office until they found the scarf I wore.
Her gaze lingered.
“So,” she said slowly, “he marked you. And you are hiding the mark right there than being proud of it. But yes, you are amongst humans. You would rather you don’t expose the fact that he bit you, would you?”
I didn’t move. “What is it that you want Delilah, and how did you find out where I was working in the first place? For a person who was on the run, I really am curious about what the explanation is going to be.”
Her eyes narrowed for the briefest of moments before a tight-lipped smile curved her lips again. “Well. I suppose congratulations are in order. From Omega to Luna. That’s quite the… transformation.”
I said nothing, only watching her. She had dismissed responding to my question. I chose to keep my eyes on her, waiting to see what she was here to say.
“I just wanted to thank you,” she continued. “For allowing me to stay. For showing such… grace, even when you had every reason not to. You still allowed me to stay, you did not kick me out like any other Luna would have, you know, To have beautiful woman appearing like that, entering your park and even catching your mate’s eye… you really had it in you really had it in you to stay strong.
She stepped closer.
Too close.
I saw her hand rise, just slightly, a subtle attempt to brush my arm, maybe even test my reaction.
“Leave.”
She stared at me for a beat too long, and for the first time, I saw it, hesitation. Weariness.
She turned on her heel.
But not before saying, “You may be Damon’s Luna now… but don’t forget… he was never meant to choose you. You might not want to accept it, but you really need to understand the reality of things. It was never supposed to be you. A low rank like yourself should have never been his Luna.”
I watched her leave.
Unshaken. Unmoved.
And when the door clicked shut behind her, I let out a breath, not from fear, not from relief…
But from power.
Because I wasn’t that girl anymore.
And Delilah would soon learn just how much that meant.
