Alpha Damon (Sienna) novel Chapter 156

Damon:

The house was quiet when I got home, too quiet.

It was as if the light of the home that I have gotten used to seemed to dim down in a way that I could not explain. There was no sound of Isla’s babbles, no soft hum of Sienna’s voice echoing from the hall. The usual warmth that filled these walls had dimmed into something more muted. And it didn’t take me long to figure out why.

It didn’t take me long to find my beauty. The tension that coursed within my veins had my wolf tensed up under my skin as he fought to try and understand what upset her.

She was in the living room, curled up on the far end of the couch. Her posture was relaxed, but everything about her was tense. Her arms were folded, her eyes distant, and when she noticed me, her expression didn’t change.

She did not move to approach. She did not come to say hello, not like she normally would have, even before the two of us have marked each other.

Not even a small smile.

She was cold… distant.

I hated it.

“Sienna,” I said gently as I walked toward her. “Is everything all right?”

She didn’t move.

She did not even react. She did not respond. She did not look like she wanted to.

I sat down beside her, close enough to touch, but not pressing. I didn’t want to push too hard. Not now. Not when I could feel her walls slowly creeping back up around her. “Talk to me Sienna, what happened? Did anyone at work bother you? Did someone tell you something that they shouldn’t? Did they respect you in a way that they should not? Did Giovanni pay you a visit?”

She took a deep breath and finally looked at me.

“She came to the office today,” she said, voice quiet, but steady. “She just walked in as if she owned the place, casually and normally.”

I didn’t need to ask who she meant. And though she did not say the name, for a moment I believed that it would be Lysandra. She was the one person who would actually be willing to break her soul or her spirit. But I was surprised when she said the name. I did my best to mask it, though.

“Delilah.”

I nodded once, jaw tensing. “What did she say? How did she find out where you were working? The office?” Sienna looked away again, her hand brushing against the scarf around her neck before she dropped it into her lap.

“She was… polite. Cold. She smiled like she meant it, but it felt like something sharp was behind it. Like everything she said had another layer to it.” Her fingers curled slightly. “She told me she was impressed… that I was wearing the title of Luna. She didn’t tell me how she found out where we were working, though I asked. She did her best to dismiss the question. She did not give me a response. And then she tried to touch me.”

I felt the growl rising in my chest.

“I know.” My thumb brushed gently over her skin. “And I hate that you’ve been feeling like this alone. But you know for a fact that we have our enemies and they’re not going to stop appearing in our lives. If anything, they’re going to keep appearing more and more just because they want us to weaken.”

Her eyes opened. “I didn’t want to bother you. That was the reason why I did not call you. But why can’t we just be together without having to worry about someone just attacking?”

“You’re never a bother, Sienna.” I paused. “You’re my Luna. My mate. My everything. You carry this pack on your shoulders just as much as I do now. And I’m not going to let anyone, Delilah, Giovanni, anyone, threaten that. I swear it. Sometimes we have our enemies, and the more enemies we have, the stronger we prove to be. They’re afraid. I don’t know who Delilah is associating with. But I know this… we’re going to find out. And I’m going to put a limit to that.”

She leaned forward, pressing her forehead to mine.

And in that moment, I could feel her walls crack, just slightly. I could feel her softening, the distance shrinking.

“I’m here,” I whispered. “I’m not going anywhere.”

She nodded against me, her voice barely above a whisper. “Neither am I.”

And just like that, the cold in the room began to fade.

Because no matter how many storms tried to shake us… we were learning how to stand through them together.
