Alpha Damon (Sienna) novel Chapter 166

Damon:

The city faded behind us, swallowed by the stretch of forest roads and the hum of the engine. I kept one hand on the wheel, the other wrapped around hers where it rested on her thigh. She hadn’t said much since we left the office, but I could feel the tension radiating off her. The soft way she leaned into my touch, the way her fingers twitched every few seconds like she wanted to ask me something but didn’t.

And I knew that no matter how hard she was trying to contain herself, the question still roamed around her mind.

I didn’t blame her.

I’d been quiet too.

Too damn quiet.

There was so much I should’ve told her. So much I should’ve said. But every time I looked at her… I found myself wanting to protect her from it. I found myself wanting to think that it was nothing more than a lie, that this was a game that everyone was playing on us. That what I heard was not true, That my father did not say what he did. Even when I knew keeping her in the dark wasn’t the answer. But tonight wasn’t about all the chaos waiting at our door.

Tonight was for her.

For us.

I was initially taking her out for lunch but I figured taking her. Somewhere else. Taking her somewhere romantic, away from all of this was needed. I knew that running away from my problems was not an option, but tonight, this was needed. I was going to tell her, but I needed to tell her. Away from the pack grounds, away from the house, away from where I knew everything was going to break loose for her.

I opened her door before she could argue. She stepped out slowly, taking in the scene. The cottage wasn’t big. Just cozy enough for two, with soft lights glowing from inside and a dinner table set under a canopy of twinkling fairy lights outside.

It was different from the cottage that I took her to the first time. This was something more screwed, something away from all the commotion. So wonder where no one could find us? Well, that was aside from the maids and servants that I had coming here before us.
