Sienna turned to me, eyes wide, lips parted. “You did this? This is very beautiful.”
I nodded, stepping behind her, wrapping my arms around her waist. “Every inch of it.”
She leaned back against my chest, and for a moment… the world felt still.
“I didn’t know you were such a romantic,” she whispered.
“I didn’t know either,” I murmured against her ear. “Guess you bring it out of me. The part where I won’t know that I want you to smile. The part where I know that I want to see that laughter. I want to see your glow in your eyes. You bring out something in me that I never knew existed.”
We walked hand in hand to the table. I pulled her chair out, kissed the crown of her head before sitting beside her. I took her hand in mine as I watched one of the servants start the service.
It was beautiful. Everything about it was magical. Perhaps the steak, the mashed potatoes. I knew that they were her favorites. Then there was the pasta and dessert. Tonight, the two of us were going to dine. I knew that much like almost every night. But I knew that this was a special moment for the two of us, for her.
She kept looking at me while she ate. Like she was searching for something in my face. Like she could sense the storm in my chest I was doing everything to keep buried. Like she could read it and I knew that. You don’t. She might be able to do so. Her wolf would have her sensing my pain, my anger, my agony, my sadness. But I still did my best to try and hide it.
“You okay?” she asked softly, her hand brushing mine. She put the fork down, already done with food. I looked at her, setting her expression for a moment, admiring her beauty.
I nodded, brushing my thumb across her knuckles. “Better than I’ve been in a while. Come on, let me show you around.”
We took a slow walk around the cottage, her hand in mine, the moon above casting silver light through the trees. “It’s a little too quiet for my taste. You know, I’m kind of used to the loud commotion of the pack.”
“While it was your idea to ring us to us secluded place, then again you just seem to like doing so and I’m with you.” She said, giving me a little laugh.
“I believe that it is a better opportunity for the two of us to be alone or in secluded. It might be better option for you to be able to scream in private. Call my name, whimper in pleasure… you know, without the pack members hearing your voice every night.” Her cheeks reddened and she gave me a playful slap on my chest. I chuckled and shook my head out to her.
Once we stepped inside, I didn’t give her a chance to retreat.
I pulled her toward me.
Tonight wasn’t about dominance or proving a point.
It was about reminding her.
That she was mine.
That I was hers.
And that even if the world tried to tear us apart again…
I wasn’t letting go.
