Delilah:
The walls of the office were too white.
Too clean. Too polished.
And no matter how hard I wanted to deny it, no matter how much I was despising being here, I knew that I needed to be.
I needed help, and I knew that they were the only people who would be willing to help with something like this. They were the only people who hated Giovanni enough to want to side against him.
I sat at the edge of the long, glass table, fingers tapping an idle rhythm on the surface, waiting. I had sent for her. I knew she would come. Sienna De Luca was many things, but a coward wasn’t one of them. And she wouldn’t back down from a confrontation, not when she believed something needed to be said.
Not when she believed that me being here alone was a risk. And if she knew any of the information that I had told Carter and Ethan then she was going be here…
The moment the elevator doors slid open and her scent hit me, I sat straighter. And though I did not admit it, I hated the charisma that she had carried with her that she walked in with, holding on to this by being angry. Despite being weaker than I was, she was still acting as if she was stronger. And she was still willing to fight.
She didn’t knock. She didn’t pause.
She stormed in.
Her heels struck the floor like a war drum, echoing down the corridor before she stepped into the room. Her eyes locked onto mine, and I felt it, pure, unfiltered rage simmering just beneath her skin.
“You have some nerve being here, I hope that you realize that. A person unwanted like you. Who do you think you are to want to speak to me?”
I didn’t rise.
“Trust me when I say that I would rather I die than speak to you, but I have no other option. That is why I called.” I said, looking her dead in the eye. “And I believe that you came simply because you are curious. And because you know that I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t need to be.”
She crossed her arms. “Well, here I am. Whatever it is that you have on your mind, whatever it is that’s going to slip out of your tongue, say it and get out.”
I tilted my head slightly. “Are you finished?”
She blinked. “What?”
“I let you speak. I let you unload. You needed to.” I said, standing up, crossing my arms over my chest as I looked at her, taking a step towards her. “But now I need you to listen. You might not want to, I respect that, but I am not here because I want to be. I need to be and if I didn’t then I wouldn’t have stepped foot in this building in the first place. I wouldn’t have approached you, your mate or any one that is around.”
She scoffed. “Why the hell would I listen to anything you have to say? You of all people, a liar like you, why would I choose to allow you to say something to me or for me to listen?”
“Because I’m not here to fight you,” I said softly. “If I was here to fight, I was not going to come and do it in broad daylight. I was not going to come and call you and Needless to say, I was not going to stand in front of you. I doubt that you would be here if you believed that I would harm you or anyone that is around you at this moment.”
I took a step closer. She didn’t back down.
