“Then why hide it?” My voice cracked, and I hated how raw I sounded. “You knew what she was trying to do. You knew she was manipulating him. And still, you didn’t think I deserved the truth? You still did not believe that. At least I deserve to get a hint of it.”
Kael sighed, jaw tightening. “It wasn’t my truth to give, Sienna. It was Damon’s.”
“That’s not your call,” I snapped. “You’ve always defended me, always looked at me like I was worth something, even when others didn’t. And now? You protect her by lying to me?”
He took a long breath and turned to fully face me. “Do you know why I didn’t say anything? Because I knew if I did, you’d see it as betrayal. Not from me. From him. And I wasn’t about to hand you that wound on a silver platter when I knew he was trying to fight it. I was not going to put my son in a situation where he was going to need to explain something that he himself did not know, he himself did not understand and was trying to fight.”
My hands trembled.
“He’s been pushing her away, Sienna. Every time. Even when his wolf responded, he pulled back. You were the one he marked. You’re the one he comes home to. And if you can’t see that, then maybe it’s not him you don’t trust, it’s yourself.” He said, taking me off guard. “You have been marked as his Luna and yet you are still doubting something that is like this, A game that she played to manipulate his mind. You need to understand that this is not an easy call, neither for him nor for you, and for him to hide something like this from you means that he chose to respect you. It means that he chose your love. He did not choose doubt. He did not want to plant it in your heart.”
I couldn’t speak.
The silence between us stretched long, and I hated that part of me believed him.
I’d given him my heart.
Now I knew that I was going to need to fully trust him with it…
