Damon:
The gentle warmth of the morning sun filtered softly through the curtains, bathing the room in a golden glow. My eyes opened slowly, the remnants of sleep clinging to me, though this time, it felt peaceful. Calm.
My wolf felt content more than anything else in the world. He felt like everything was right, Like despite all what we were going through, everything was going to be all right.
Everything being alright… it was a dream that I now did not dare have, but I also knew that standing by my mate side, I want to be able to have it somehow.
I shifted slightly, becoming aware of the delicate weight pressed against me. I knew that you woke up a few times at night to check on Isla, but I did not expect to see that you were still asleep. Normally she would be awake long before me, but it seemed that she was exhausted.
Sienna’s head rested comfortably on my chest, her breathing steady and deep, lost in the tranquility of sleep. Her arm draped over my abdomen, a gentle claim she held even unconsciously. A soft smile formed on my lips as I traced my fingers gently up her back, feeling her warmth beneath my fingertips.
It was strange how this felt so easy now. So simple. So true, like they were meant to be. Like this was the reality that I should have always been living in. Like everything that I thought was real was now nothing more than a past that I wanted to ignore. A past that I pretended did not exist and wanted to always claim that it did not.
My thoughts drifted back to the previous night, every whispered word, every gentle touch. She’d become my haven. My sanctuary.
My peace.
The one person that I did not want to lose. The one thing in my world that I would rather I lose my breath before thinking about not having her around.
She stirred lightly, her lashes fluttering against my skin before she slowly lifted her head, sleepy eyes meeting mine. Her heartbeat was calm and a small smile formed on her lips.
“Good morning,” I murmured softly, brushing her hair behind her ear. I looked at her, studying her expression, the calmness that she was having, that I knew she was feeling.
Her lips curved into a small, sleepy smile. “Good morning.”
We stayed like that, quiet and close, as if moving might disrupt the delicate peace we’d created. Her fingers drew idle patterns against my chest, tracing invisible lines that sent warmth through me.
“You slept well,” I remarked, my thumb stroking softly along her shoulder. “Though I felt you got up a few times from bed. Let’s see, all right, that she calls you that much of a fuss?”
She nodded gently. “Best sleep I’ve had in a while. You know, with her having a flu and teething, she tends to get a little fussy, but she’s alright. My wolf is reacting to her. She wants to be around her and with the danger lurking about, you know how protective she gets and how protective she is going to be.”
I leaned forward, brushing my lips against hers gently, savoring her soft sigh. Pulling back slightly, I whispered, “We better go before Isla decides she wants all our attention. If Father decided that he wants us at the table, I believe that there is a reason for that.”
Sienna laughed quietly, nodding. “You’re right. She might be tiny, but she knows exactly how to get her way.”
“Just like her mother,” I teased, earning a playful swat on my chest.
We reluctantly rose from the warmth of the bed. Sienna wrapped herself in the robe I handed her, glancing back at me, her eyes dancing with amusement.
“Come on, Alpha,” she teased softly, holding out her hand. “I believe that we can take a shower together. It might spare a little time and water, wouldn’t you agree?”
“I would, but we are going to need to be quick. As you may know, the family is waiting for us at the table.” I teased and she winked.
“Well then we have thirty seconds to be in the shower before anyone starts calling for us again. Wouldn’t you agree, Alpha…?”
