Alpha Damon (Sienna) novel Chapter 261

Sienna:

I knocked gently on the infirmary door before pushing it open. I knew that I shouldn’t have come, but I also knew that she might need someone to speak to sometimes. She might need someone to actually be willing to listen to her. She might not say it, but I could tell that she needed it. At least that’s what I wanted to believe, that there was a part of her that wanted to need a friend to listen to her.

The light inside was muted, soft rays falling through the curtains, casting quiet shadows across the floor. Delilah sat beside Lysandra’s bed, her back to me, one hand resting motionless on the armrest.

She’s been down since we saw her all morning. I saw the light in her eyes, the light that was there yesterday suddenly chose to disappear, and though she did not say the reason, I did not need her to. I saw it in his eyes too, and I could tell that something had happened between her and Ethan, something that the two of them were most likely not yet ready to share. But I still wanted her to know that she was not alone.

She didn’t look up when I entered. She didn’t even acknowledge my presence, but I did not comment. I was not going to make a remark about it.

“Hey,” I said quietly.

She blinked slowly but didn’t look up. “Hey.”

I stepped closer, careful not to disturb the calm. I don’t want to wake up Lysandra and most importantly, I do not want to anger her in case she wanted to be left alone. “I came to check in. I thought… maybe you could use someone to talk to. You didn’t come to breakfast today and you’ve been staying here all cooped up in the room. I figured to come and talk to you.” “I’m fine,” she said, too quickly. “You have things to take care of and a life to run. You do not have to worry about me.” My steps slowed. “Delilah…”

“I said I’m fine.” Her voice was sharp, clipped like a blade drawn too fast. “Please just leave me alone, Sienna.”

I stopped beside her, watching the tension rise in her shoulders, her knuckles pale where her fingers pressed into the chair’s edge. She had her arm wrapped around herself, I could tell by the red mark that was on her left forearm. She was doing her best to try and stay calm, but I understood what it was to be in pain and I understood what it was to have to carry everything on your shoulders by yourself.

“You know you act like a big sister all the time, and yet you refuse to allow others to stand by your side when you need it. You don’t have to carry things alone.” I said softly. “Whatever it is. I’m willing to listen. I am willing to be the shoulder that you might want to cry on.”

She turned suddenly, eyes flashing.

“Don’t do that, I don’t get to do that, nor do I need sympathy or the pity of anyone within this place.” she snapped.

“Delilah, no one is pitying you. I am here to speak to you just as you speak to me when I need to hear it.” I said, but she shook her head, glaring at me, her eyes harder than they had been, as if she was an enemy and not the same woman who was telling me herself that she was willing to stand by my side.

“Don’t act like you know. Don’t push when I didn’t ask for your help.” She said, her eyes darkening with anger. “Do not act like the beautiful Luna who is loving towards everyone. You can play that game on everyone else, but you don’t need to play it on me. Don’t act like you care about me, because I don’t need you to care about me. I don’t want any of you to care about me. I don’t need that act or game.”

I stood still.

I didn’t stop.

I didn’t soften.

As I passed him, I murmured low and clear, just loud enough for him to hear.

“Whatever it is you did, I suggest you fix it. Because that woman inside was not broken when she came, and if you chose to break her, then you’re going to fix this. Otherwise you’re going to be dealing with me. And you don’t want to deal with me. Not when it comes to something like this.”

I didn’t wait for an answer.

He had none I wanted to hear.

I just walked past him because whatever it was, he was going to have to deal with it. If he started this then he was going to have to fix it.
