Alpha Damon (Sienna) novel Chapter 262

Ethan:

I stood at the door for a second longer than I should’ve.

It wasn’t because I wanted to, It was because I knew that Sienna was right. I knew that I had made a mistake and that right now I needed to pay the price of it, regardless of how painful it was.

The wood was cold beneath my knuckles after I knocked, the air still enough to make the beat of my heart feel louder than it was. It was cold to the point where I debated on whether or not it was a good idea for me to be here.

I knocked again.

But no answer came.

I turned the handle anyway. If she was going to listen, then I was going to be now. It was the only chance that I had. Speak to her. If I allowed her to give in to her pain alone, then I had lost her for good. She was not going to be willing to forgive me for that.

She wouldn’t scream with Lysandra asleep. That at least I knew she wanted her sister to get as much as rest as she could. And that was something that I wanted to take advantage of, at least for now.

The room was dim, still. Lysandra rested soundlessly, her breathing even, her features relaxed for once. After everything that she’s been through, I was glad that she could get some shut eye. Delilah sat beside her, one leg tucked under her, arms crossed tightly over her chest. She didn’t look up when I entered, but I knew she’d heard me. I knew that she had caught my son by the door, she was well aware there was standing behind it and that was one of the reasons that why she was ignoring me.

I moved slowly, taking the chair across from her. Price out slowly, careful not to anger her, careful not to make the storm within her explode on my face.

She shook her head, letting out a breathy, bitter laugh.

“You don’t get it, do you? You really are taking me for some kind of fool, aren’t you? For a spoiled brat, a girl who would be laughing simply because you’re around her or crying when you are away?” she said. “I’m not some weak girl you get to play games with. I’m not here to be saved or pitied or kissed into submission. I have dealt with things far worse than you and I have been forced to deal with men who would make you run away and hide.”

“I know you’re strong,” I said, leaning closer. “I see it, every second you breathe, I see it. That’s not why I…”

“Then why?” she snapped, eyes flashing. “Why string me along just to stand there and say it meant nothing? That I’m some mystery you’re sorry for? Did you really think I wouldn’t hear it? That I wouldn’t feel it in every word? Was that your tactic of getting me inside your bed? Is that the way that you deal with women? To make them feel special, you give them the benefit of doubt, of making them think that you want to be around them, that you want them to give in to your charm. And once you’re done, once you’ve gotten what you wanted, you just step back. You’re using and pitying me. I don’t know how many others you chose to play. And if anyone asks, you did not need to force them, they wanted this, they were enjoying it. It was consented on both sides only. What you failed to mention is that you are playing them. Playing their hearts and their feelings. And once you are done with them, you just step back.”
