Tatiana:
The walls cracked with my scream.
The ground shook with each moment that I found myself dealing with the rage that I couldn’t control. The rage that she brought onto me. The rage that she allowed herself to play with.
I watched as the glass shattered, as everything around me started to break. But nothing was working.
The candles I’d lit with a flick of thought blew out, smoke curling like ghosts around my bare feet. The mist coiled tighter around me, pulsing with the same fury boiling in my veins. I could still feel it, her. Delilah. That wretched child. The shameful distain of a child.
She hit me. She touched the core of my creation. She banished me. And she just turned and left. Like nothing… she just left.
I should have turned her to ash.
I should have made her beg before I killed her, or even better, used her body to destroy them all from within…
I should have…
“What is this little tantrum for now? I am starting to find it hard to concentrate on anything with the amount of yelling that you are throwing out.” Giovanni’s voice cut through my thoughts, sharp and amused. “Did your spell backfire, darling? I am wondering why it keeps failing you. You’ve broken more glass, lit up more candles, and burned more ash than necessary. And yet, here we are, nothing.”
He was mocking me. He was mocking ME!
He sipped. “I’m not sure if it’s boldness or clarity. Your mist seems to be clearing. You know, there are others that are waking up from it. They are wondering what is going on and what happened. Some even say that they had no control over who they are, their memories, or what they are feeling. You know, I find it strange, because a part of me feels the same way.”
I walked toward him, mist trailing behind me like a veil.
“You’re not clearing, Giovanni. You’re breaking. They are not going to listen to you. They are going to fall out of your lead.” My eyes flashed silver. “You wouldn’t last a breath without me. They are going to rebel and you wouldn’t know how to control them. The darkness is going to eat them and you’re just going to be collecting the pieces.”
He chuckled. “Wouldn’t I? And here I thought I’ve been doing just fine without hearing voices in my head. You know, it seems to me that it is a lot more calm. It is calmer than it has been in a long time. For a person who wanted to jump in that fire, I am surprised that you were so damn eager to come back. Well, then again, it is me who thought that he wanted you.”
