Alpha Damon (Sienna) novel Chapter 326

Damon:

I watched them from the edge of the training yard, arms crossed, my shoes planted in the dirt. The sun was almost gone now, just a low, burning ember bleeding across the horizon. I hadn’t meant to overhear their conversation. Hell, I hadn’t even planned to walk by. But there was something about the stillness between them that made me stop.

There was a vision that I never expected to see, one that I was feeling triumphed over.

Two women.

Both of them who are hurt by me. Both of them cast aside, once pushed away, scarred for life.

Both healing despite me.

A woman who was making me proud with everything that she had and another that I knew broke beyond comparison, though she does not speak of it; I saw it in her eyes. I still can.

And for once, they weren’t tearing each other apart.

Since this war started, this calmness was one that I never expected. The way that Sienna looked at Lysandra and the way that Lysandra avoided her after recovering… I knew that this was pain, but I never expected that they would be talking.

Sienna’s hand was on Lysandra’s shoulder as they stood in the garden, speaking in low, hushed tones. I couldn’t hear what they were saying now, not clearly, but I could read the body language, open, not defensive. Real. The weight that had hung between them for so long had started to shift.

Maybe this was what hope looked like after war.

Maybe there could be a family after all of this, something that could resemble a little peace.

I heard the faint crunch of footsteps behind me. Ethan.

“You’re spying now?” he asked, a faint smirk on his face. “I never expected you to interfere in the matters of women. The man that I know saw it to be rude to get in the middle of something that he shouldn’t.”

“Not spying,” I said without turning. “Just… making sure things don’t fall apart again. The last thing that I would have expected today I was to see the two of them talking.”

“They won’t,” he said confidently, then his gaze followed mine and softened. “They’re strong. Stronger than we gave them credit for. And it seems to me that you should actually start questioning everything that we know. They all seem to be talking, getting along more than we ever thought they ever would.”

“I know.” I whispered. “And that is one of the reasons why I’m concerned. I don’t know where this is leading and I don’t know how it is going to go.”

“}

There was a beat of silence before Ethan muttered, “Lysandra’s different now. I think she found herself again. Only this time, she is finding herself in a way that she wants to be found. She’s not following anyone else’s footsteps. She’s not following anyone’s pain. She’s creating her own path and that’s good for her.”

“Yeah,” I said quietly. “And Sienna’s still trying to hold herself together for everyone else. This is one of the things that I’m concerned about. My woman is trying to hold everything together and yet she’s just neglecting her own self.”
