Alpha Damon (Sienna) novel Chapter 51

Sienna:

I noticed it immediately.

And no matter how hard I tried to ignore it, pretend that it did not exist, pretend that it was only in my head, I couldn’t.

Damon was hovering. And he was being too obvious about it, annoying, and even rude.

At first, I thought it was just coincidence. That he was simply there by chance, by obligation, by whatever excuse I could come up with to convince myself that he wasn’t actively doing it. I wanted to believe that he had things to be taking care of, and that was why he was around me.

But as the days passed, I realized I was wrong. I realized that I was being nothing more than a fool to think that it was a mere coincidence.

He wasn’t just there.

He was making sure that I was never alone. He was making sure to monitor everything that I was doing. It is making sure to spend as much as time around me and that was not something that I understood.

Everywhere I went, he was close by. Whether it was training, eating, walking around the pack house, or even when I simply wanted a moment to breathe, he was watching. Everywhere I went, everywhere I turned, I just found myself looking at him, seeing him. He did not say anything unless he was training me, but he was always there.

Observing.

Lurking.

It was suffocating.

And right now, I couldn’t find myself wanting to just simply accept it. I found myself wanting it to stop. I found myself wanting nothing more than for him to just disappear, at least for a while.

And when I tried to step outside, to take a break from everything, even for a short walk beyond the gates, I learned just how far he was willing to take it.

“No.”

The word was firm, final.

I turned on my heel to glare at him. “Excuse me? What do you mean by no? Actually, how the hell do you think that you can just come and tell me not to do something that I want to do? Especially since this is not going to end up affecting you, it is just me roaming around.”

Damon stood a few feet away, arms crossed over his broad chest, eyes dark and unreadable.

They held a sense of danger, a sense of warning, something that told me not to challenge him. But I also knew that if I did not, I was just going to end up putting myself in a situation where I was going to be forced to submit to him. And that was not something that I wanted. I did not want him to believe that I was just going to simply submit to him because he wanted me to.

I was not going to allow him the advantage to think that he could have any power over me. Not now, and not ever. “You’re not going out there alone,” he repeated, as if I hadn’t heard him the first time. “You are not free to do as you please within the pack without anyone by your side.”

Frustration burned inside me. “I’m just taking a walk, Damon. I need some air.”

“Then take it here.” He gestured to the open space around us, the pack grounds, the training fields, the house. “You don’t need to leave. You don’t even get to act the way that you want simply because you want to act that way.”

I clenched my jaw. “I’m not asking for your permission. I don’t need to ask for your permission to walk around the park, Damon. I am walking around because I want to walk around. This place is my home too, not just yours.”

“I am the pack’s alpha and you are going to ask me before you go and roam around.” His eyes darkened, and he took a step closer. “And I’m not giving it.”

I inhaled sharply, my hands balling into fists at my sides. “Why are you doing this? Why are you always following me, making sure I don’t take a single step out of place? It is not like there are no other pack members around. Why do you keep roaming around me while everyone that is around you choose me?”

Because he deserved it.

Slowly, he turned back to face me, his green eyes burning with something unreadable, something dangerous.

But I didn’t back down.

I stood my ground, chest heaving, my own eyes locked onto his.

For a moment, neither of us spoke.

Neither of us moved.

Then, in a voice so low it sent a shiver down my spine, Damon finally broke the silence.

“You’re testing me, Sienna.” His voice sent shivers running down my spine, but I did not falter. I did not allow him to see my weakness.

I swallowed, my pulse thundering. “And you’re pushing me too far. And if you are choosing to play this game, then I believe that you would at least expect consequences to deal with. Just as much as I would be expecting to deal with my own.”

His gaze flickered, his jaw flexing.

Then, without another word, he turned on his heel and walked away, leaving me standing there, breathless, furious, and shaking.
