Alpha Damon (Sienna) novel Chapter 75

Sienna:

I stood by the mirror, adjusting the collar of the blouse I had chosen, trying to ignore the sinking feeling in my stomach. The feeling that told me that something was going to happen, that’s something that was not going to go as I planned for it to be, but I knew that this thunderstorm was going to erupt the second that I chose to accept the job.

This was the first day of my new job, the one I had originally considered turning down, the one I had tried to convince myself wasn’t necessary.

But I needed this.

No matter how hard they were going to try and convince me that I did not need it, I did, and I needed it on my own

terms.

I needed something that was mine, something outside this suffocating house, outside the weight of Damon Lockwood’s name.

I knew that he would tell me that there was the job that Ethan was offering me, there was the job that he managed to get for me, the flexible one with a high pay, but I was not going to accept it. I was going to need something that was mine, something that was away from everything that was chaotic in my life.

My little Princess was still asleep, however one of the maids was going to be spending her day with her, taking care of her. And then after a few hours, another one would be coming in to take her place, making sure that they both got to take care of her, that she was not left alone or unattended.

I had gone through the instructions time and time though. I knew that they would know what to do. They’ve been taking care of her by my side when I was asleep or when I was resting. When I was outside training, they were the ones to take care of her. But for me to be away from her now, that was something that I still did not know how I was going to be able to handle. But I did not care. I was not going to back out from this now.

I heard the door creak open behind me, and my fingers stilled against the buttons of my blouse.

I did not need to turn around to face him.

I knew that he was not going to like this.

His energy shifted the air in the room, tense and heavy, like a brewing storm that hadn’t yet touched down.

“You’re dressed,” he said flatly. “It seems to me you’re going out.”

“I am,” I replied, not bothering to turn.

“For work?” He asked casually as he walked towards his dresser. “I would assume that Ethan already gave you the terms that you need to work with.”

“Yes,” I said, finally meeting his reflection in the mirror. “I accepted the offer. Not the one that Ethan made though.” His jaw ticked, the muscle tightening as he stepped further inside. “You are going against me despite me telling you that I did not want you working. And if you did want to work, it was going to have to be on different terms.”

“And I told you I wasn’t going to keep living in your house like some charity case,” I snapped, turning to face him. ” I’m not here to be owned, Damon. And I’m not here to be treated like a side chick that you just want to get rid of.”

He stared at me, unblinking. “This isn’t just about you, Sienna. You’re the mother of my daughter. You are expected to stay within this pack, beside me. You have things to take care of, you have her to be taken care of and to be raising. Who are you going to leave her with?”

His eyes burned into mine, chest rising and falling as if he were holding himself back.

“This isn’t just about you, anymore,” he growled. “You have responsibilities now.”

“Don’t you dare preach to me about responsibilities,” I hissed. “I carried our daughter inside me alone. I nearly died for her. And I’m still standing.”

We stared at each other, neither of us backing down.

And then, just when I thought he might explode, he took a slow, deep breath, his voice lowering just enough to sound dangerous.

“Do what you want, Sienna. But don’t expect me to sit back and watch while you pretend you don’t belong here.”

I turned away before I could say something I’d regret, grabbing my bag with shaking fingers.

“I stopped expecting anything from you a long time ago,” I whispered.

And with that, I walked out of the room, leaving him standing in the wreckage of whatever this was becoming.
