Alpha Damon (Sienna) novel Chapter 77

Kael:

The moment I stepped back into the house after my discharge from the infirmary, I could feel it.

Tension.

Thick. Unspoken. Heavy.

The house was wrapped around anger, hate, and for a moment I found myself wondering if it was the same place that I left, if it was the same home that I was in before I took that bullet.

All the hate wrapped around the pack house like a fog, settling in the corners of every room, especially in the one where Evelyn stood, arms crossed, lips pursed, as she gave one of the maids instructions to change the sheets in the guest wing. She barely looked at me when I walked in.

That was the first red flag.

“Where is Sienna?” I asked casually. “I haven’t been seeing her around. I figured that she might be busy with Isla, but I would have assumed that she would come to the Infirmary.”

“I asked her not to go to the Infirmary, there are other things that she needed to be taken care of and if she went to the infirmary, if she got in the middle of a mess or if she got sick, it would just end up putting her daughter’s health in danger. The last thing that we want is for a child to be sick.” She said, and I hummed in response.

“You still haven’t answered my question. Where is she?” I asked, crossing my arms over my chest.

She didn’t look up. “She’s in her room, where she should be. Away from this mess. It seems to me that you guys work from work. She went to her room after that. At least she is no longer causing me trouble and my son is no longer sleeping in the guest room.”

Her room.

Not our Luna’s room, not Sienna’s suite, not with Damon. Just her room.

That was the second red flag.

“Why was Damon sleeping in the guest room?”

“Because he invited her to be staying in his room, We don’t know how things escalated between them, but he was not sleeping in the room. He chose the guest room. At least now she’s back to where she belongs.” She said, and I pressed my mouth into a thin line as I looked at her.

I stepped fully into the room, letting the door shut behind me with a quiet but firm click.

“You’ve changed,” I said calmly. “And not in a way I admire. Not in the way that I’ve known you to be.”

That got her attention. Evelyn turned to face me, her brows raising. “Excuse me?”

“You heard me.” I didn’t raise my voice. I didn’t need to. “I spent the past few days fighting for my life, wondering if I’d ever get to see my son again. And the first thing I return to is my own mate turning cold on the girl who risked everything, who sacrificed everything, to protect our bloodline.”

“Kael…” she started, but I didn’t let her finish.

“No. I don’t want to hear your excuses.” I took a step closer, my eyes hardening. “Do you remember who her parents were? Do you remember the night they died to protect you? To protect Damon? That girl you’re acting like a burden was left orphaned for our sake, and you’ve forgotten all of it. Have you forgotten that because of her, you and Damon are alive? And even if you managed to survive what would have been of Damon? He was a child at the time. He would never have survived that fire. I think that you know that very well. Both of them gave everything up for us. They left her alone for our sake.”

The room went still.

Evelyn closed her eyes, the weight of my words sinking into her bones. When she opened them again, they were glistening.

“I’ll think about what you said,” she whispered.

I gave a small nod, stepping back. “Good. Because I won’t stand by and let you drive her away. Not after everything.” Without another word, I turned and walked out, leaving my mate alone in her silence.

But I knew this…

That girl was not going to be treated like a mistake.

Not under my roof.

Not by my family.

Not as long as I was breathing
