Aww Seven Exes Begged Cute Blocked novel Chapter 35

**A Promise Written on the Rusted Edge of Time by Dael Rowan Sire**
**Chapter 35**

Bryce arched an eyebrow, his gaze flickering over to me with a hint of defiance.

“Yeah, you know, taking care of my girlfriend is pretty important,” he replied, his tone casual yet defensive.

I wasn’t convinced. “You ignored my texts all day. I thought you were busy with family stuff.” My words carried a chill, a stark reminder of the distance that had grown between us.

“Not this,” I added, my voice dropping to a whisper, as if the very mention of it would shatter the fragile facade we were maintaining.

“If you didn’t want to hang out, you could’ve just said so. I don’t do clingy,” he shot back, his irritation boiling just beneath the surface.

With a loud clatter, she dumped her tray and stormed off, leaving me feeling like an unwelcome guest in my own life—like I was the other woman in a story I never wanted to be part of.

I didn’t turn to watch her leave; instead, I focused on the plate in front of me. “Go. She’s waiting,” I murmured, the words heavy with resignation.

I wasn’t about to let good food go to waste. Once I stepped out of this place, I knew I’d be saying goodbye to Five Guys for good.

Bryce scrutinized my expression, misinterpreting my calm demeanor as a sign of victory.

“Wait, so you’re not going to fight me on this?” He leaned closer, searching my eyes for any trace of the old Maddie he once knew.

“Do what you want, Bryce. It doesn’t involve me,” I replied, my tone sharper than I intended, catching him off guard.

He sighed, the sound heavy with a mix of frustration and concern. “You think I’m oblivious, but I feel sorry for her. Her life’s been hard.”

“Not everyone grows up loved like you did. You wouldn’t get it,” I shot back, the bitterness creeping into my voice.

“But even though you’ve always been loved… I still chose you. Remember that,” he countered, his words a reminder of the bond we once shared.

I chose silence, letting the weight of his statement hang in the air as I continued to eat, the taste of the fries somehow more bitter than before.

In a moment of impulsive mischief, Bryce pulled out his phone and snapped a picture of me mid-bite, capturing the moment for the world to see. He posted it with a caption that made my cheeks flush with irritation:

One—Five Guys sitting on a hospital tray, a cruel reminder of our last meal together.
Two—a shot of Bryce, arms cradling her like a delicate treasure, the princess-carry angle capturing a moment that felt intimate and wrong.
Three—Bryce slumped asleep in a chair by her bed, River’s bandaged leg draped casually over his lap, an image of comfort that twisted the knife deeper.
