Watching Sam and Madison walk away without so much as a backward glance, William nearly toppled over in fury.
He flung his fork onto the floor, his voice trembling with rage. "Sam Goodwin! Don't you dare threaten me by walking out every time things don't go your way! If you step out that door today, don't ever bother coming back!"
In truth, William only meant to scare him. He didn't believe Sam would actually walk away. Even if Sam was running the company, he still needed William's backing.
But to William's disbelief, Sam paid no heed to his threat. He left without even looking back.
William's chest heaved with anger as he gasped for breath, shouting, "Insolent brat! This is outrageous!"
Seeing this, Simon immediately rose, pretending to be the dutiful son as he hurried to steady his father. "Dad, please calm down. Don't let this hurt your health."
Lydia chimed in seamlessly, "Yes, William. You mustn't let this upset you. Sam's been completely bewitched by that Quinn woman.
"You need to stay strong to keep him in check. If you fall ill, no one will be able to control him."
Yelena swept a cool gaze over the couple, easily detecting the sharp undertone in their words. Still, she had no intention of stopping them. After all, their words served her just fine.
Yelena said lightly, "Dad, Sam's position in the company keeps getting stronger. Over the past two years, he's been treating us elders with less respect. If this continues, will we eventually have to bend to his whims?"
Hearing them take turns criticizing Sam's arrogance, William looked grimmer than ever.
"Enough!" he thundered, shaking off Simon's hand. His sharp gaze cut through the room like a blade.
"Don't think I don't know what all of you are up to. I'm warning you—keep your petty ambitions to yourselves. My heir will always be Sam, and only Sam!"
Resentment flickered across Simon's and Yelena's faces. However, Lydia couldn't hold back her irritation and protested, "William, none of us object to Sam being the heir.
