Chapter 232
Lewana POV
I start to wake up and realise I’m in my bed. It must be morning. I look out the window, and I don’t see the sun rising. I’m confused for a second, and then the memory hits me. Serena is yelling in my head as we both puf it together.
“That bastard drugged us. What time is it?”
I frantically reach over and look at my phone.
“It’s 3 fucking 30. The sun starts to set in four hours. Shit. We don’t have a lot of time to prepare.
I look over at Conrad in his peaceful sleeping form, and I’m livid at him. I grab my pillow and start beating him with it.
“WAKE UP“.
He starts grumbling and moves his arms to start defending himself, but he starts laughing.
“Alright, alright. I surrender“.
I snap at him. “We are going into battle in four hours, and you drugged me“.
He looks at me lovingly with a smile on his face. “Would you have slept so you were well rested before battle if I didn’t?”
I freeze. I know he is right, but I’m sure as hell not admitting it. He can see the anger turn to frustration, and he pulls me into bed, pressing me flush against him.
I start to grumble and push his arms to get away, but he holds me tight.
“We are meeting everyone soon. Just spend five minutes with me, as we don’t know when we will have peace like this again.“.
I can feel him opening up the mate bond to connect with me, so I relent and snuggle up next to him and open mine as well. We just lie in bed enjoying the connection. Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end.
We both get up and put on our battle fatigues. Mine has been reinforced around my bump to stop my bump from moving as much and resist bullets while still being able to shift. Conrad is in a shift suit as well.
We both head downstairs and quickly check in with the other guardians who are also getting ready. We have a decent meal, so we have the energy for tonight, and we get all of our weaponry. Once the pack is safely inside the packhouse, we all head to our zones to monitor.
Conrad and I are on the Eastern Plains. With the sun setting behind us, the dark seems to come faster as the shadows shrink before our eyes. We stand out in the cold for hours, just waiting for any signs of life.
We all jump when we hear Nightstalker speak through the earpieces.
“Large group coming towards the eastern plains. About five kilometers out“.
We all tense up as this is it. You can feel the tension instantly go up. I don’t smell fear, though. This is good as it means we are ready.
With our wolf vision, we can see them walk over the mountains. They’re are about 2000 marching towards us all in their fake Lycan forms growling and trying to intimidate us. It’s not going to work.
We have about 500 wolf soldiers and 100 hunters on our front line, all eagerly awaiting the order to unleash on them. Not yet.
Malik is front and centre in his human form, shadows billowing off him like smoke from a chimney. He walks towards us with a cocky stride as though this would be easy.
He pauses half a kilometer from our front line as he bellows out across the plains using his Alpha voice.
“It’s time to come home, little bunny. So many have suffered because of you. If you come willingly, I won’t slaughter everyone here“.
Honestly, can’t he come up with anything new?
I talk back at him, like I don’t have a care in the world.
“And here I thought you came to get your brother“.
He froze but recovered quickly. “Knew that sniveling weasel would crack. How long did he last?“.
I let out a cheerful laugh. “He told everything to his beloved Luna Queen once I gave him apples in butterscotch. Did your mother use to give that to you as well?”
He kept his features neutral, but the shadows around him started swirling more violently.
“I came here to kill Conrad and then take you. Maybe I should take you first so he can watch me claim and ravage you before I take my future mate from your belly. How is the pregnancy going?”
I respond as if he asked for a weather update, which pisses him off even more. “Really well, actually. Ten weeks still to go. Too bad you’ll miss it. I was debating keeping you in the dungeons just so you can see her before you die, but I honestly don’t think you’re worth the effort“.
I can tell he is getting angrier by the second, as not even the other soldiers are reacting to the slurs against my character. Conrad sends out a mind–link to everyone.
“Remind me when we’re done here to monitor how much time you’re spending with Michelle. I think she might be rubbing off on you“.
