Betrayed and Dumped: She Rose Stronger Than Ever novel Chapter 21

Ms. Harper used to get anxious over the smallest things that involved Mr. Lamont, but now, there was nothing. Not even a text. Maybe she was just too busy.

In the office, Sonja was digging into her lunch like it was the best thing she’d tasted in ages. Across from her, Bruce was moving his fork around his plate, barely eating.

Sonja raised an eyebrow. “Why are you eating so slow? You don’t like it?”

Bruce shook his head, looking pale. “No, it’s good. I just had breakfast pretty late, so I’m not really hungry yet.”

He took a small bite, just to make a show of it. The spicy, mouthwatering scent hit him all at once. Normally, it wouldn’t bother him, but his stomach was still recovering, and this kind of food was only going to make things worse.

But Sonja had gone out of her way, and she was enjoying herself so much. He couldn’t bring himself to ruin the mood.

When she saw him eating the food she brought, Sonja smiled, clearly pleased. She reached over and added more food to his plate. “Try this one. It’s super spicy, but it smells amazing, right? The flavor’s so bold.”

Bruce pressed a hand to his stomach, hoping she wouldn’t notice. He’d only taken a tiny bite, but his stomach was already protesting again. Even so, he couldn’t say no to her. “Yeah, it’s really good,” he managed, forcing a smile, even though his eyebrows drew together in pain.

Sonja didn’t seem to notice and kept piling food onto his plate.

Once she was nearly done, Sonja set down her fork and grabbed a napkin, wiping the corner of her mouth. Her cheeks were flushed from the heat of the food, giving her that soft, rosy look. It made her seem even more charming, a different kind of beautiful than usual.

Bruce’s heart skipped a beat.

Sonja looked up. “Are you free this Saturday?”

“What’s up?”
