Rebecca barely had a moment to breathe these days. She was constantly shuttling between home, the hospital, and the office. The exhaustion was obvious, and she looked thinner than ever.
At least Samantha’s condition had stabilized for now. Aside from dropping by every day and reminding the caregiver to stay on top of things, Rebecca didn’t have much else she could do for her.
Work, though, was a whole different beast.
After she sent Greg the product update requirements, she thought maybe her coworkers would ease up a bit. She was wrong. Most of them still treated her with cool indifference, some even going out of their way to pretend she didn’t exist.
Rebecca didn’t bother saying anything about it. Right now, she had bigger problems. The sales proposal for Meridian Tech needed to move forward, but everything was held up at the demo stage.
She tracked down Greg and got right to the point.
“I need the R&D team to put together a rough product prototype. It doesn’t have to be perfect, just enough to show Meridian Tech what we can do for them.”
Meridian Tech didn’t care about bells and whistles. If the product solved their problems and the price was right, they’d sign on the spot. Rebecca had spent three years building a relationship with their general manager, so she knew exactly what they needed.
All it would take was a few extra features added to the existing product. That would tick all of Meridian Tech’s boxes.
But Greg wasn’t having it.
He just shrugged. “Sorry, Ms. Harper. We’ve got other projects that are more urgent right now. We can’t risk upsetting our current clients for a maybe. It’s not worth it.”
Rebecca frowned. “Greg, this Meridian Tech deal is bigger than anything else we have. If we get this contract, we’ll be set for the next three years. I’m not asking for much, just two programmers. I’ll work with them. Give us two weeks, and we’ll get it done.”
