Betrayed and Dumped: She Rose Stronger Than Ever novel Chapter 27

Dr. Palmer never imagined he’d bump into Rebecca here. The moment he saw her, he remembered the surprise Caleb had hinted at earlier.

His face was unreadable. “Hi.”

Rebecca caught his cold tone and immediately felt lost, a knot of anxiety tightening in her chest.

Luckily, Caleb stepped in to lighten the mood. “So, I heard you are taking part-time graduate students next year. Rebecca’s been thinking about further study, so she wanted to meet you in advance.”

Both Rebecca and Dr. Palmer froze for a second.

Rebecca hadn’t heard anything about a part-time program, but now that she had, her eyes sparkled with hope.

Dr. Palmer stayed aloof, holding onto the regret from five years ago. He glanced Rebecca up and down, then scoffed. “Aren’t you busy raising kids by now? Where would you even find the time or energy for grad school?”

Rebecca’s cheeks turned bright red. “I don’t have kids. I’m not married. I’m single.”

His expression chilled even more. “So, what’s that supposed to mean? Did he dump you?”

Rebecca nodded. “Yeah, something like that.”

He shook his head, clearly frustrated. “Terrible taste!”

She knew he was right. Her judgment had never been great when it came to people. Rebecca bit her lip, thinking back on how she used to put love above everything else. Still, she didn’t regret it. She loved deeply, and when it was time to move on, she did. It was just life, she thought.

Dr. Palmer sighed. “Whatever. I have things to do. Message me later.”

He turned and walked off.

Caleb could barely contain his excitement. His eyes were shining. “Did you hear that? If he tells you to message him, he’s basically giving you the green light to apply. As long as you pass the exam, you’re in!”

Rebecca smiled, soft and genuine. “Thanks, Caleb.”

He waved it off. “You are welcome.”
