Chapter 13
Mary stopped worrying about Max’s crying and hurriedly scanned my face. “Are you alright? The internet is so toxic these days. Those photos could easily be fake. Whatever it is, wait until Master Zane gets back and ask him directly.”
“Mmm.”
I lowered my head and slowly started eating my oatmeal.
Real or fake, I’d seen it with my own eyes last night. There was no need to ask.
Only then did Mary seem to notice how incredibly swollen my eyes were.
After hesitating for a moment, she slipped away, probably to call the main estate. I could almost hear her reporting in a hushed tone: “Yes, Old Madam. Elara must have seen the news early. She didn’t come down for lunch, and her eyes are all swollen from crying…”
The folks at the main estate didn’t usually pay attention to gossip news.
Hearing about it now, they were thrown into an uproar. Zane and his widowed sister–in–law! A scandal like this? How could the Grayson family show their face in public? What about their reputation!
The Old Madam was so agitated, they said even her medication didn’t help–she fainted from anger. The main estate was in complete chaos.
Compared to them, I was the picture of composure.
I calmly finished my oatmeal and, despite my puffy eyes, went upstairs under Mary’s sympathetic gaze.
The moment I closed my bedroom door, Chloe’s call came through.
“I’m telling you, it absolutely wasn’t me who leaked this,” she blurted out, desperate to prove her innocence. “Look at the photo angles! You can tell they’re not the ones I took, right?”
“I know.”
I walked into the bathroom, put her on speaker, and grabbed an eye mask from the mini–fridge. “You wouldn’t release them so quickly. You’d go shake
Zane down first, no matter what.”
I’d already checked while I was downstairs. The news had started bubbling up last night but only blew up completely two hours ago. The pattern looked organic–this was likely the work of one of Zane’s business rivals.
Chloe’s voice rose,
half laughing, half cursing. “Don’t talk nonsense. I’m a lawyer, okay? A lawyer. I don’t engage in blackmail.”
“Mmm, right,” I agreed absently, joking
“What you do is called ‘reasonably collecting management fees for evidence of extramarital affairs.“”
“… You have quite the imagination,” Chloe laughed, but then her tone shifted, confused. “But won’t this eager reporting mess up your plans? And what kind of grudge is this?” She joked, “Could it be revenge for stealing someone’s wife? Who else has a thing for Amelia?”
“It won’t mess things up.”
Hearing this, I shook my head as I applied the mask, my voice becoming muffled. “I don’t know who, and I don’t care what grudge it is. As long as it doesn’t affect me.”
If I had confronted or questioned Zane and Amelia’s relationship directly, I’d be the tactless, unreasonable one. But now that it’s been exposed by a third party? The game had changed.
I was the victim.

Chapter 13
By evening. Mary had cooked all my favorite dishes.
But my stomach was still churning from the hangover. I had no appetite and only managed a few bites before pushing the plate away.
Mary sighed, trying to comfort me. “Ma’am, don’t be too upset. When the Old Madam found out, she was so angry she ended up in the hospital. She’ll definitely get justice for you.”
“Grandma’s in the hospital?” I frowned. “Why didn’t anyone tell me?”
“Everyone feels they’ve wronged you…” Mary said while clearing the dishes. “And you’re already so heartbroken yourself. Don’t worry about the Old Madam for now.”
“Heartbroken?”
I was somewhat confused. It wasn’t like I’d just found out about those two today. What was there to be heartbroken about now?
