Betrayed I Upgraded to His Billionaire Brother novel Chapter 153

He opened a shoe cabinet, pulled out a brand new pair of women’s slippers, and dropped them on the floor.

I just stared, bewildered, before his cool, sharp voice continued, Wash your feet.

Okay.I’d almost forgotten. His germaphobia.

My feet had just walked from the elevator. Of course he couldn’t stand it.

I bent to pick up the slippers, then stepped inside, careful not to let my dirty soles touch his immaculate floors.

The layouts of our apartments were identical.

I walked straight to the guest bathroom on autopilot, turned on the shower, and without waiting for the water to warm up, started diligently washing my feet.

The water was still running when the partially open glass door was pushed wider.

I had just finished, placing the showerhead back in its holder. I looked at him, feeling lost. After a moment’s hesitation, I asked, Will you help Chloe?

I probably already knew the answer.

But I needed to hear it from him to feel any sense of relief.

Gavin’s long, clean fingers rested on the door handle. His tone was unreadable. Is Chloe that important? Important enough to sell yourself for?

The last time I’d felt this humiliated was right before deciding on the divorce, standing outside that private club in another city, overhearing that Zane’s true love was his sisterinlaw.

No, this was worse.

But besides Gavin, I truly had nowhere else to turn.

My toes curled. I didn’t know where to look. Yes. She is.

During those eight years after the man before me had abandoned me, it was Chloe who stayed by my side. Chloe, who had nothing, just like me. But she never gave up on me.

If it weren’t for wanting to save enough money quickly to leave New York with me, Chloe probably wouldn’t have been so desperate to take on such a risky case, giving Theodore the opening he needed.

And if I refuse?Gavin’s blue eyes were full of scrutiny, as if he wanted to see straight through me, body and soul. Who are you planning to throw yourself at next?

The words ground my dignity into the dust.

Truthfully, there was no one else.

I might have swallowed my pride and gone back to Zane or Victoria. If I was willing to sacrifice everything, I could probably get Chloe out safely.

But here, now, under Gavin’s penetrating gaze, my stubborn pride flared up. I refused to back down.

I let out a selfdeprecating laugh. Maybe Zane? Or Theodore? Orif some old man takes a fancy to me, I’d be willing-

SLAM!

Chapter 153

The bathroom door was flung violently open, crashing against the wall, cutting off the rest of my sentence

He strode into the bathroom, swept me up into his arms, carried me to the living room sofa, then turned and went back into the bathroom, returning with a soft, dry towel.

There was no emotion in his eyes, but the dangerous energy rolling off him made his displeasure abundantly clear.

I shrank back. He sat down beside me, took both my ankles in one hand, and placed my feet on his knees. He wrapped the towel around them, methodically soaking up the moisture.

Somehow, his long, well defined fingers looked even more captivating against my skin.

Maybe because he’d dried my feet for me so many times as a child, I didn’t feel nervous.

When he finished, he set the towel aside and shot me a leisurely glance. Is your period over?

My entire body went rigid.

I hadn’t expected us to get to the main event so quickly. I shook my head nervously. Not yet.

As soon as the words left my mouth, Gavin tore open a packet of honey and poured it into a glass of warm milk sitting on the coffee table.

He then handed the glass to me.
