I felt the weight of Gavin’s piercing gaze upon me, and the intensity of it made me want to shrink away. Taking a steadying breath, I mustered the courage to say, “I’m waiting for Zane.”

Gavin’s response was almost dismissive, a smirk playing at the corners of his mouth. “Wait for him if you want,” he said, his tone dripping with mockery. “But don’t forget what’s in the agreement.”

A rush of anger surged through me, nearly clouding my vision.

When I was sure that none of the servants were paying attention, I shot him a look that could have burned a hole through steel.
