Betrayed I Upgraded to His Billionaire Brother novel Chapter 3

**TITLE: Pushing the Edge 3**
**CONTENT: Chapter 03**

Amelia stood frozen, her entire demeanor shifting in an instant. For a fleeting moment, her expression darkened, revealing a glimpse of something dangerously unhinged—an intensity in her gaze that sent an icy shiver racing down my spine.

“Who gave you the right to bring that up?” she spat, her voice laced with venom.

The glare she shot my way was sharp enough to cut through the air, brimming with pure, unfiltered rage. It felt less like a genuine inquiry and more like a veiled threat, the words grinding out from between her clenched teeth.

“Elara, let me give you a piece of advice: don’t go poking the bear. Or do you really want to see how that plays out for you, sweetheart?”

I met her fierce glare, my own voice dropping to a low, steady tone that I hoped would convey my resolve. “That doesn’t matter. What truly matters is that you remember one thing: I am the lady of this house.”

With those words, I turned on my heel and retreated to my room, shutting the door firmly behind me, the sound echoing like a finality in the tense atmosphere.

Later that night, a low rumble of an engine broke the stillness of the courtyard. I glanced out from my floor-to-ceiling window just in time to see a sleek black Maybach glide effortlessly into the garage. My heart sank as I watched Max emerge, a broad smile lighting up his face as he bounded toward Amelia, who was waiting for him with open arms. Zane joined them, and the three of them stood together, exuding an air of unity that felt almost familial.

A short while later, the doorbell rang, interrupting my thoughts. Zane stepped into my room, his expression grave.

“What did you say to him, Elara?” His voice was low and strained, a hint of frustration lurking beneath the surface. “The kid’s hysterical, sobbing about monsters. He just lost his father. Was any of that necessary?”

I shrugged, my voice flat and devoid of emotion. “Yeah,” I replied, gesturing toward the nightstand. “He ripped up my family photo. The only one I had left.”

Zane froze, his eyes widening momentarily in shock.

He reached out, as if to stroke my hair in a half-hearted attempt at comfort, but I jerked my head back, unwilling to accept his touch. Realizing my anger still simmered, he softened his tone, adopting a placating demeanor.

“My fault. I’ll make sure Max apologizes too, okay? Look, I’ll make it up to you. Whatever you want.”

I lifted my gaze to meet his, a cold smile curling my lips. “Anything?”

“Name it,” he replied, nodding eagerly, his relief palpable. It was as if he believed this was just another issue he could throw money at to resolve.

“Then I want these two things.” I handed him the two documents I had been clutching tightly.

He glanced at the first—a property transfer deed—without even blinking. He scrawled his signature across the bottom as if it were a mere formality, showing no hesitation. When it came to paying people off, he was always more than generous.

The second document barely registered with him. He flipped straight to the last page and signed with a flourish, his nonchalance suggesting he was too important to bother with the details.
