“Gavin, there was a four–leaf clover pendant Elara left behind in that jewelry box yesterday. Make sure you return it to her.”

“If you’re too busy, I can go get it myself.”

Gavin took Charles’s call from his top–floor office, the “four–leaf clover pendant” resting in his palm. His sculpted features were shadowed with tension.

This was no ordinary four–leaf clover pendant.

“I’ll return it myself.”

“Alright then.”

Charles breathed a sigh of relief.

Neil, who had overheard the whole exchange, watched in stunned silence as Gavin opened his wallet and carefully tucked the pendant into the innermost compartment.

“Your grandmother just had this delivered. She said she had it blessed at the church this morning–supposedly very potent. She insisted you wear it close to you.”

Gavin rubbed his temples. “Did she say anything else?”

Just then, his phone rang.

Eleanor’s excited voice came through the speaker. “You got the pendant, right? Let me tell you, this is a specially blessed charm from the church. The moment I got it, I heard that lovely doctor at the clinic is divorced now.”

“She’s single! Don’t you dare look down on her just because she’s been married before-”

“Grandmother.”

Gavin cut her off, tone merciless. “Divorced or not, I’m not interested.”

“What? You mean-” The old woman gasped dramatically.

“Yes. Exactly what you’re thinking.” Gavin willed her to drop the matchmaking.

“Oh my god, you like men? Is it Neil??”

Gavin went completely silent.

Beside him, Neil wiped a bead of sweat from his brow, expression pained–Someone, please save me from this conversation.

I didn’t realize the four–leaf clover pendant Grandma Eleanor gave me was missing until the next day.

I even made a special trip back to the clinic, thinking I might’ve left it in the consultation room.

Elias happened to be passing by and glanced inside, surprised. “Elara, aren’t you off today?”

I popped my head out from under the desk. “Yeah, I lost something. Came to check if it was here.”

He couldn’t help but laugh at the sight of me.

“Any luck?”

“Nope.” I dusted off my hands and stood up. “Must’ve dropped it somewhere else.”

If I’d just tossed it loosely into my bag yesterday, it probably slipped out while I was digging for my keys or my phone.

“What was it? Anything important?”

“Nothing major.” I smiled up at him. “Weren’t you giving a lecture at the university today? Back already?”

“New hire at the clinic. Grandpa asked me to handle the onboarding personally.”

I nodded–made sense.

“Well, don’t let me keep you.”

“In a rush?” He grinned. “Why not come along and meet her? She’s a woman–probably easier for you two to connect.”

“Alright.”

Why not? We’d be working together sooner or later. No harm getting to know her early.
