I frowned and turned to look.

Of course, she wasn’t alone–Zane stood right beside her.

He wore a deep gray three–piece suit that fit him perfectly, looking every bit the composed and distinguished heir. With his sharp jawline and those intense eyes that could melt you one second and freeze you the next, he really was unfairly handsome. Too bad it was all wrapped around a lying, cheating heart.

His gaze swept over me, tinged with that familiar scrutiny. “What are you doing here?”

For a moment, I was speechless.

It’s not often I lose my grip on my emotions, but right then? I almost did. Was he seriously implying I’d followed them here? To a car dealership?

Quinn, his assistant. For the past three years, most of the luxury bags and jewelry in my closet had been delivered by her on birthdays and anniversaries. She’d probably even picked them out herself.

In a way, Quinn knew my tastes better than Zane ever did. Maybe she was more of a wife to me than he was a husband.

And Zane? Well, he was clearly Amelia’s husband.

Just then, the sales director hurried out, beaming. “Mr. Grayson! So glad you’re here!” He turned to Amelia, oozing flattery. “Mrs. Grayson, the car is waiting in the showroom. We’ve arranged the delivery ceremony exactly as Mr. Grayson requested–I guarantee you’ll love it!”

I calmly looked away and moved to get into my car.

“Elara.” Zane stepped forward, his hand blocking my door. “They’ve misunderstood my relationship with Mia. Don’t read into it.”

Sometimes I really wondered about Zane.

How could anyone be so two–faced?

Or maybe hypocrisy was just built into him.

He was the one who couldn’t let go of Amelia, the one who took her everywhere–yet he still couldn’t just own it in front of me.

Did he think that besides being obedient, I was also stupid? That I couldn’t see through him?

“Zane,” I said, my voice surprisingly cool. I didn’t even feel angry anymore. “You shouldn’t be explaining this to me. Explain it to them.”

I gestured toward the sales staff watching us. “They’re the ones who misunderstood your relationship with Amelia. Not me.”

“Elara…” His gaze stayed soft, pleading. “If I explain now, they’ll only look at Mia differently. Let it go, alright?”

“Fine. Let it go.” I was tired. Really tired. I shook the car door slightly. “Now let me go. Amelia’s waiting. Don’t keep her.”

That limited edition 911 in the showroom, the carefully arranged ceremony, the 999 Floyd roses–it was all for her. A grand, romantic gesture Zane

His eyes stayed on my face, searching. “Then… I’ll go?”

“Go.”

We’re divorced. So what if he buys Amelia Hermes bags and Porsche 911s until he’s flat broke? What do I care? Even if the whole world knows he’s willing to spend his entire fortune on his dead brother’s wife… so what? If that’s what makes him happy.

Even though my voice was steady and my face as calm as ever, he seemed to pick up on something–or maybe it was just his own guilt kicking in. He always wanted a docile, obedient wife, someone with no opinions of her own, who’d follow his lead and cater to his whims without question.
