Betrayed I Upgraded to His Billionaire Brother novel Chapter 67

Chapter 67

Chapter 67

See? I didn’t tell him.

She took a deep breath, then signaled the butler to bring in the lawyer.

The clause was changed on the spot. Right after I signed the papers, we heard Grandma Grayson’s voice from the living room.

Victoria shot me a look that could freeze hell over.

Mom’s blood pressure has never been the same since Ethan passed. She’s still fragile, so don’t you dare spill the beans about the divorce.

I nodded and went out to join the old lady.

Grandma’s always had a soft spot for me. She took my hand and started chatting away, all warmth and nostalgia.

After listening to her heart with my stethoscope, I couldn’t help but say, Grandma, with your health history, you really have to watch your diet. Try to stay away from greasy and heavy stuff.

Oh hush, now you sound just like Victoria! Don’t you start scolding your grandma too,she grumbled, pretending to be upset and pulling the elder card.

Just then, a voice came from the doorway.

Grandma.

Zane walked in slowly, tone gentle as ever. Elara’s just worried about you.

He stood there, composed and towering, in that elegant deepgray suit. A pair of goldrimmed glassesthe kind his late brother Ethan used to wearrested on his nose, completing the picture of a man who was all polished, untouchable class. It was a look that screamed old money and effortless power, so sharp it was almost intimidating.

For a second, it threw me.

I couldn’t reconcile the Zane in front of me with the one tangled up with Amelia.

It just didn’t add up.

Grandma got tired of us naggingand shooed us out not long after.

Once we stepped outside the Grayson estate, my mood cooled again.

I didn’t want to go back to Zane’s place. I was already unlocking my car, running through excuses in my head, when he opened the passenger door and got in.

Elara,he said, voice still calm, let’s talk.

I’d expected this. I looked up at him, all gentle obedience. Talk about what?

Sometimes you need to keep a certain distance from other men, Elara.

Hm?

You and Eliasit’s causing talk at the clinic.

Chapter 67

I was lost.

I’d braced for something about the divorce. Not this. Not Elias.

We hardly interacted outside work. Before the Germany trip, we barely spoke privately.

And it’s not like the clinic was some rumor mill.

Wellexcept now Amelia worked there.

Zane looked at me like I was being naive. Elara, you’re married. As my wife, I’m not asking much. Just avoid giving people things to gossip about. Okay?

His tone was so reasonable, so patronizing, it was almost funny.

How had I never noticed what a hypocrite he was?

But with the divorce just four days away, I didn’t bother arguing. I pulled the same act I used with the Windsorsserious on the surface, empty underneath:

Yeah, don’t overthink it. There’s nothing going on with Elias.

It sounded exactly like his usual, There’s nothing between Mia and me.

I’d learned from the best.

Zane’s eyes softened. He reached over and ruffled my hair. Of course I believe you.

That’s how he’d always handled me over the years.

Back when I used to clash with Gavin, while his other friends stayed out of it, Zane was the one who’d speak up for me.

I started the car, but before I could think of a clean escape, my phone rang.

Elias.

Zane’s gaze locked onto me, but I picked up openly.

Through the car speakers, Elias’s voice filled the space between us.

Elara, dinner at the usual spot. Can you make it by seven?

Yes

The answer came easilya way out.

He sounded like he was smiling. You can bring a plus one. If Chloe’s free, bring her along?

I wasn’t sure what time Chloe got off, but before I could reply, Zane cut in:

I’ll accompany Elara.

Elias recognized his voice. His tone cooled instantly. Of course. You’re both welcome.

After hanging up, I glanced at Zane, You sure you want to come?

Why wouldn’t I be?
