Adrian replied, “If my son participates, and he has the ability to win first place, then he must win it. If this is just for entertainment, why bother setting up so many prizes? You might as well just give the same gift to every participant.”
“...”
Julian leaned close to Isabel’s ear, stoking the flames. “He’s obviously targeting you. If it were me, I wouldn’t be able to stand for it. But that’s just me.”
Isabel glared at him. Things wouldn’t have escalated like this if it weren’t for him.
This man just loved to watch the world burn.
“You must have a death wish,” she hissed through gritted teeth. “With so many people watching you clash with Adrian here in Westbridge, you’ll end up buried here before you ever get back to Aurelia City. Some protector you are, getting yourself taken out.”
Julian seemed completely unbothered. He looked at Adrian, his gaze direct and unwavering. “Since Mr. Blackwell insists his son must win first place when he competes, how about this? Let the two children compete. Whoever wins gets first place.”
He added, “As the director said, this is for the children’s enjoyment. Since the prizes are for them, for the events that don’t require adult cooperation, let the children compete on their own.”
The director, despite meeting Julian for the first time, felt a surge of gratitude.
Without him, he would have no idea how to resolve this situation.
He certainly couldn’t afford to offend Adrian.
But if he caved to power in front of so many people, sacrificing fairness,
it would be hard for parents to trust him with their children. What if Oliver was in a bad mood one day and bullied someone? That would be even more trouble.
“Leo’s guardian is right. We should encourage more participation from the children themselves. They can learn things through these games.”
Adrian countered, “What is there worth learning here? Do you think something learned from a game will allow someone to surpass the Blackwell family?”
“...”
Isabel couldn’t take it anymore.
