Selena continued, “You just take everything too seriously. Please, listen to me this once. Today is about making Oliver happy. If he’s not happy, then there was no point in us taking the time to come. Come on, let’s go check out the other games.”

Selena took Adrian’s hand and led him away.

Oliver, clutching his schoolbag, happily let Selena take his other hand.

Isabel stood frozen for a few seconds before turning to take Leo to the other activities.

Julian bent down to look at her face. “Are you angry?”

Isabel forced a smile. “No. I just feel ridiculous.”

She knew that with Selena around, no matter the situation, Adrian would always listen to her as soon as she spoke.

And yet, she had been about to step in to defend the director, to reason with him, to try and persuade him.

After so many lessons, she still hadn’t learned.

She wasn’t important to Adrian or Oliver.

Leo seemed to sense something was wrong and didn't insist on playing all the games.

Julian had been quite interested in the game that involved passing a piece of paper from mouth to mouth.

But after seeing Adrian and Selena almost kiss during their turn, he decided to spare Isabel the sight.

“I’m hungry. Let’s go eat,” he said to Isabel.

Isabel asked Leo what he wanted to eat, and he replied, “Hamburgers.”

They went to the nearest fast-food restaurant.

Isabel sent many pictures of Leo to Amanda and asked if there was anything he couldn't eat.

Amanda replied that Leo was easy to feed and had no allergies, but to be careful he didn’t choke on things like jello.

That was a relief.

Watching Leo eat so obediently, Isabel couldn’t help but feel a pang of envy.

“Hey, kiddo, what other activities are there this afternoon?” Julian asked from across the table.

Leo said, “We don’t have to go. We can just tell the teacher we’re leaving. I think you guys are tired, and I don’t mind.”

Julian smiled. “Since you’re being so considerate, we’re going to the amusement park this afternoon.”

Leo was still a child. No matter how sensible he was, some temptations were hard to resist.
