Sophie had a terrible night’s sleep.
She kept replaying the conversation in her head.
The idea that Adrian didn’t want a divorce just didn’t seem plausible.
She had been looking for another chance to ask him about it.
She never expected to run into him this morning.
But his behavior only deepened her confusion.
“Un-uncle.”
Sophie was determined to get an answer, otherwise she’d never be able to rest.
Adrian turned his head. He noted her more acceptable attire, but his gaze remained cool and his tone clipped. “What is it?”
Sophie glanced at Isabel, then lowered her voice. “Uncle, can you come here for a second? I need to talk to you.”
Adrian didn’t move. “Say it here.”
Since he wouldn’t budge, Sophie had no choice but to whisper, “Uncle, are you delaying the divorce with Isabel because Great-Grandma is sick?”
“Is that any of your business?” Adrian’s eyes sharpened. “Did you take care of what I told you to?”
Before Sophie could say another word, Adrian pulled out his phone and made a call. “Send someone to check on her now.”
“No, no, no!” Sophie forgot all about the divorce and scrambled back to her room. “I’ll go get changed right now!”
Back in the safety of her room, she thought about it again, and the more she did, the more something felt off.
That’s right.
If her uncle was so in love with Selena, who could have possibly forced him into a marriage?
Even if it was for his grandmother’s sake, he was resourceful enough to manage both situations without sacrificing his own happiness.
And it was true that Selena had always insisted their relationship was like that of a brother and sister.
But she never once corrected Sophie when she called her ‘Auntie Selena’.
Occasionally, she might gently chide her, saying it wasn’t appropriate.
But she had never strictly forbidden it.
And her uncle had never said anything about it either.
Ultimately, Sophie decided she couldn’t just take one person’s word for it.
She was almost an adult. She would observe and make her own judgment.

Isabel paid no attention to what Adrian was doing.
