Isabel felt that Adrian should be furious. Even if he was always composed, he shouldn’t be acting like this toward her. It was almost as if not getting a divorce was something that made him happy.
How could that be possible?
But she soon found out why.
Daniel explained the partnership with the overseas Velaris Corporation and expressed his hope that she would cooperate. So, that was it. Not getting a divorce was just a convenient coincidence that helped him secure a business deal. His happiness had nothing to do with their marriage; it was about leading the Blackwell Group to greater success and proving his own exceptional abilities.
But if she was the key to closing this deal, she deserved something in return.
“Adrian, I can cooperate, but you have to sign the divorce papers.”
Adrian, sitting across from her, didn’t even flinch. “I don’t trust you. You promised you would never expose our marital status, yet you splashed it all over the internet.”
“If I sign the divorce papers now and you say something to Velaris Corporation, this deal will be dead in the water.”
“This partnership is critical. It’s a major step in a new chapter for the Blackwell Group. The potential losses amount to tens of billions. You can’t afford to be responsible for that.”
Isabel rarely heard Adrian speak at such length. But it didn't matter. To her, it was all just noise. He was far more attractive when he was cold and silent.
“You want my cooperation, but you’re offering me nothing in return. I’m sorry, but I can’t help you.”
Adrian retorted, “You created this mess, so you should be the one to fix it. How dare you have the nerve to ask me for something in return.”
He continued, “Because of you, not only is this partnership at risk, but the online fallout also requires the Blackwell Group’s PR and legal teams to handle it. Do you have any idea how much they cost?”
He gave her no chance to speak.
