Adrian pushed her into the suite.
“Have you already forgotten what I told you on the plane?”
Isabel pressed her lips together and glanced around the suite. She didn’t want to fight with him. If Adrian was asking for her cooperation, the matter must be important. Not wanting to cause more trouble for herself, she went into the smaller of the two bedrooms, leaving the master suite for him.
Then she realized that, having been rushed onto the plane, she had no change of clothes.
She went to ask Adrian how long they would be staying and if there were any shops nearby. She had never been to this country and was unfamiliar with the area.
Adrian pointed to two large suitcases by the wall.
Isabel looked at him, confused.
Adrian’s lips formed a thin line as he opened one of them. It was filled with women’s clothing, including lingerie. She bent down and picked up an item. It was even her size.
Of course, she didn’t believe for a second that Adrian had prepared all this. For the past six years, whenever he left Halcyon Hills Residence, she was the one who packed his bags. When he returned, she would be the one to unpack and take care of his laundry. He was a neat freak and didn't trust anyone else with his things. At the time, she had thought it was a sign of intimacy, his way of acknowledging her as his wife.
Thinking back on it now, it was laughable. He spent more time away from her than with her. Who packed his luggage then? The great young master certainly wouldn’t do it himself. That only left Selena.
Ha.
Once you finally see things clearly, looking back at your past self is always an exercise in humiliation. You can't help but curse how stupid you were, wishing you could go back in time.
But Isabel only allowed herself a brief flicker of emotion. She no longer loved Adrian. Everything she had endured was her own responsibility, and she would bear the consequences. But from this day forward, she would not make the same mistakes.
She took her clothes out, placed them in the closet in the small room, and put the suitcase away, choosing to believe that Martha had been the one to pack it.
