When Adrian arrived at the hospital, Isabel was nowhere in sight.
Only Selena was in the room.
She was dressed thinly, and Adrian draped the overcoat he was carrying over her shoulders before stepping out to make a call.
He hung up after just one ring.
A flicker of something crossed his eyes, and he switched to sending a text message.
He got no reply.
They didn't have each other's contact on any messaging apps.
“Give me your phone,” he said to his assistant standing nearby.
Daniel handed it over.
Adrian dialed Isabel's number.
This time, it rang twice before she answered.
He curled his lip into a cold sneer.
“Hello, Daniel. Are you calling to schedule the divorce proceedings?”
Through the receiver, the man’s already cold voice sounded even more detached.
“How long are you going to keep this up?”
Isabel’s voice was flat. “I'm serious.”
Adrian clearly didn’t believe her. “Even if we get a divorce, you’re still Oliver’s mother. How could you leave him alone in an ambulance when he’s sick? And not only that, you’re not even here at the hospital with him.”
Isabel was at the hospital.
After hailing a cab, she had followed the ambulance.
Of course she wouldn't leave her child alone in an ambulance; if anything happened, the Blackwell family would surely come after her.
But when she arrived, she saw Selena on the phone with him. He had answered instantly, and judging by how quickly he got to the hospital, he must have come running the moment he got the call.
“You’re his father too,” Isabel retorted. “May I ask why Mr. Blackwell didn’t answer your phone when I called?”
Adrian remained cold and condescending. “What else do you have to do besides taking care of your child?”
“I don’t care how long you plan to throw a fit because I didn’t come to your rescue first last time. But if anything happens to our son because of your negligence, Isabel, don’t think for a second you’ll get off easy.”
Isabel eventually showed up in Oliver’s hospital room.
