Blizzard, First Love and a Wife Who Finally Snaps novel Chapter 157

“Mrs. Blackwell.” Evelyn took her arm warmly. “It’s been ages since I’ve cooked food. Why don’t you join me in the kitchen? Since it’s a casual meal among friends, we won’t stand on ceremony.”

A simple guest and a good friend were indeed different.

But Adrian didn’t know about the friendship between Isabel and Evelyn.

Such immediate warmth might have aroused his suspicion.

Yet, Adrian didn’t seem to notice. He said, “Perfect. My wife is an excellent cook. I’m sure Mr. and Mrs. Richard will enjoy it.”

Isabel found that strange. Had he ever even tasted her cooking enough to praise it?

Well, it didn’t matter.

She and Evelyn went into the kitchen.

“These hands of yours,” Evelyn began, “they can measure the perfect ratios in a test tube, and here you are, making the ‘best food.’”

Isabel washed her hands. “I think there’s a sense of accomplishment in doing anything well.”

She regretted marrying Adrian, but many of the things she did weren't forced on her; she had chosen to do them.

She had been quite content cooking and caring for the father and son at home.

It was only when she realized they didn’t want or need it that she decided to live for herself, to stop chasing after someone who would never turn around.

“I heard you had a son?”

“I did, but he’s not mine anymore.”

Evelyn asked why.

Isabel said, “He’s just like his father. He prefers Selena.”

Evelyn was already well-informed about who Selena was.

“Such clumsy tactics. How could a smart man like Adrian not see through them?”

“I think,” Isabel said, “he’s a willing fish on Selena’s line.”

She changed the subject. “What kind of food are you in the mood for? I see you have some nice beef and vegetables here. How about a Spicy beef burrito? Does your husband eat spicy food?”

“He eats whatever I eat,” Evelyn said. “And don’t change the subject.”

Isabel sighed. “What’s there to gossip about? I’m already divorced.”

Oh, right.
