Adrian’s voice was cold. “Those are two different things. No matter what, she was his biological mother, the one who nursed him for so long.”

Mrs. Blackwell, her own anger simmering, retorted, “If she hadn’t done such a poor job raising him, would Oliver’s health be this bad? I told you back then to let me take care of him, but you insisted on letting her do it.”

Adrian’s brow furrowed. “She’s his mother. It was her responsibility to care for her own child. It’s not like she had anything else to do.”

“Adrian,” Selena interjected. “Mrs. Blackwell is upset too. Let’s not talk about this right now.”
