As she spoke, she reached for Isabel's hand.

Isabel pulled away.

Selena sighed helplessly, feigning nonchalance as she continued to persuade, “Isabel, I know you're still upset that Adrian didn't save you first, but let's not let adult problems affect the children. Oliver hasn't eaten properly in two days. A child's stomach is delicate, and he can't take this. Please, come back inside. I'll be more careful this time. We can make food for Oliver together.”

Isabel's eyes flashed with disgust, her tone laced with irritation. “His refusal to eat and his sickness have nothing to do with me.”

Selena's voice remained soft and gentle. “But Oliver just wants a meal made by his mother.”

Isabel shot back, “My right hand is injured. Are you blind? Can't you see?”

In contrast to her sharp tone, Selena remained the picture of gentle tolerance. “That's why I said I would help you.”

“You don't need to waste your breath on her,” Adrian interjected. “Her hand is fine. She was doing just fine in the kitchen a moment ago. She's just throwing a tantrum on purpose.”

Before Isabel could respond, Oliver pointed at her and shouted, “Bad mommy! You can cook for me, but you won't! You're deliberately starving me! All you do is act mean all day! No wonder Daddy and I can't like you!”

“Young master!” Martha quickly covered Oliver's mouth and gave Isabel an apologetic smile. “Mrs. Blackwell, he's just a child, he doesn't know what he's saying.”

It would be a lie to say Isabel felt nothing.

This was the child she had nearly died giving birth to.

But it was only a flicker of emotion.

Since he had already turned against her, nothing she did would change his perception of her as mean and cruel.

There was no point in explaining herself.
