For a fleeting moment, Martha caught a glimpse of the driver—a young man.
Martha hadn't seen Isabel since she'd left Riverstone Public Hospital after demanding a divorce.
She didn't know what had happened since then.
For a moment, she wondered if the divorce was because Adrian had pushed her too far, or if Isabel had found someone else...
“Martha?”
Isabel called out when she saw her standing motionless at the door.
Martha quickly turned and entered, getting her a pair of slippers.
When she opened the shoe cabinet, she noticed the pair Isabel always wore was gone.
Just as she was puzzling over it, Isabel had already slipped on a pair of disposable shoe covers.
“Mrs. Blackwell...”
“Let's go to the kitchen. I have other things to do.”
Martha followed Isabel into the kitchen. Isabel opened the fridge with one hand and told her what to get.
“The second drawer on the left. There's a small paring knife inside.”
Martha found it, and Isabel took it with her left hand. “Just hold this steady for me. Don't worry, my left hand isn't as skilled, but I won't hurt you.”
Martha let out a soft sigh.
Wasn't Mrs. Blackwell so much better than Selena?
Why on earth did Mr. Blackwell dislike her so much?
“Isabel, you’re back.”
A gentle, happy voice sounded beside them.
It was very familiar.
But Isabel ignored it and continued with her work.
Selena, completely unfazed by her coldness, walked into the kitchen. “Your hand is injured. Let me help you.”
Isabel was more than happy to let her. She immediately handed over the knife.
Selena took it and began to work, asking questions as she went. “Like this?”
