The doctor explained everything to Isabel.
As Isabel instructed the housekeeper to see the doctor out, he began to push Julian’s wheelchair toward the bedroom, only to be blocked.
“It seems you’ve forgotten what I said earlier.”
“If you aren’t going to give him a passionate kiss, I will find my own way to prove who you are.”
Isabel felt nothing for Adrian, certainly no physical attraction. Besides, her experience with marital intimacy was limited to a few encounters on the night before Oliver was conceived, and they had been unremarkable. But even so, she would never let Adrian touch her.
“Why should I have to prove anything to you?”
Julian spoke up, his voice weak. “Mr. Blackwell, your persistence is remarkable. But I must confess, I don’t understand why you’re so obsessed with finding Isabel. If it were a matter of love, your past actions would suggest otherwise. I’m truly baffled. Perhaps you could enlighten me?”
Adrian’s eyes remained fixed on Isabel’s face. “I have no reason to enlighten you.”
Julian chuckled. “Then my wife has no reason to prove anything to you, either.”
The tension in the room thickened. Julian was incapacitated, and his men were no match for the forces of the Grey Zone. But this was Aurelia City, and he wouldn’t let Adrian dominate them here.
“Mr. Blackwell, you brought your son all the way here, but what about your darling childhood friend?” Julian’s smile was laced with meaning. “My men are a rough crowd. If they were to accidentally hurt her, you wouldn’t get angry, would you?”
Adrian’s cold gaze finally shifted to him. “What did you do?”
“You keep harassing my wife,” Julian said. “I can only respond in kind.”
Before Adrian could reply, his phone rang. His expression changed as he answered the call, and he stormed out immediately.
He left Oliver behind, whether by accident or on purpose, it was impossible to say.
