A sudden, eerie silence fell over the room.
Martha came over, wanting to say something but finding no words. If she were in Isabel’s shoes today, she couldn't imagine feeling nothing. Even though Isabel was usually incredibly patient and tolerant, she wasn't a robot, devoid of all emotion. All Martha could do was try to soothe the situation. "Mrs. Blackwell, you're still hurt. Let's focus on getting you better first, alright?"-
Isabel didn't answer Martha. Her gaze was locked on Adrian.
The man sat on the sofa, his long legs crossed, as immovable as a mountain. He didn't seem to think a divorce was anything of consequence. He glanced at her, his expression placid. "Is this because I didn't save you first?"
It was about more than just that, but she didn't feel the need to list her reasons now. As long as she got the result she wanted, that was enough.
"Yes. That's exactly why."
Adrian let out a disdainful chuckle. "Really?"
"Auntie Selena," Oliver asked, his voice full of confusion, "what does Mom mean by 'divorce'? Does it mean she won't be my mom anymore?"
Selena explained softly, "No, sweetie. It means Mommy and Daddy are going to separate and not be husband and wife anymore. Mommy will always be your mommy, don't worry."
Oliver's eyes lit up. "Does that mean you can marry Daddy then, Auntie Selena?"
"Hush," Selena said, gently stroking his head. "Your daddy and I are just like brother and sister."
After speaking to Oliver, she looked up at Isabel, her smile deepening. "Isabel, that's what I need to tell you, too. Adrian and I are like family, nothing more. I even told him to save you first, but I was just too weak and fainted. Please don't blame Adrian. If you two divorce because of this, I'll feel so guilty. I might as well have died in the rubble."
"Don't say that."
"Auntie Selena, I won't let you die!"
