Blizzard, First Love and a Wife Who Finally Snaps novel Chapter 4

Then she went to the guest room to pack her things. They didn't even fill a single small suitcase. She had arrived with just this one small suitcase. It was a fitting end, she supposed.

She opened the door, closed it behind her, and left without a single look back.-

...

On the outskirts of the city, Isabel’s mother had left her a small, two-bedroom apartment—a roughly 860 sq ft place. It was smaller than a single bathroom at Halcyon Hills Residence, but for one person, it was more than enough. She came by regularly to clean, so the place was spotless.

She dropped her suitcase in the bedroom and sat on the sofa, about to dial a number she hadn't called in a very long time when a knock echoed at the door.

Isabel paused, then walked over to open it.

She was even more stunned to see who was standing there. "What are you doing here?"

"Is that really the point? What the hell are you doing here instead of in a hospital getting treated?" Dylan Foster reached for her, then stopped when he saw the bandage on her right hand. "Come with me. No arguments, let's go!"

Isabel had no choice but to follow him to his car. As she sat in the passenger seat, she struggled to pull the seatbelt across with her left hand.

"For fuck's sake!"

She heard him swear under his breath. The seatbelt was snatched from her hand and clicked securely into place.

The car roared to life, and so did his angry voice. "Do you have any idea how important your hands are? In a situation like that, did you really have to rely on him? You have a mouth, couldn't you have called for the rescue team yourself?"

Dylan was two years younger than her. He had skipped a few grades and ended up as her lab partner. Though she saw him as a younger brother, they had worked together in perfect sync.

The only time they had ever fought was when she decided to abandon their research to marry Adrian. They hadn't spoken in the six years since. She had no idea how he’d found out so quickly, let alone tracked her down to her mother's old apartment.

"I'm getting a divorce."
