Blizzard, First Love and a Wife Who Finally Snaps novel Chapter 59

Isabel didn't move.

Her gut told her that Adrian couldn't be trusted.

But she desperately wanted to get the divorce over with.

She was torn.

Adrian leaned against the doorframe, his gaze cold and fixed on her, saying nothing.

He seemed certain that she would give in and clean.

The standoff thickened the air.

Martha had intended to call them for dinner, but she saw Adrian pull Isabel upstairs.

As a housekeeper, she knew it wasn't her place to follow.

But she stood at the bottom of the staircase, ready to rush up if Isabel cried for help, even if it cost her the job.

But it was quiet upstairs.

Fearing the soundproofing was too good, she crept a few steps up.

Then she heard Isabel's voice, flat and devoid of emotion. “Mr. Blackwell, I am not cleaning for you. If you keep dragging this out, I will sue you for adultery.”

Adrian let out a short, sharp laugh, dripping with ridicule.

He didn't even have to speak; Isabel understood the meaning behind that single sound.

He thought she was overestimating herself.

Even if she filed a lawsuit, with the army of PR experts and lawyers the Blackwell Group employed, no one in Westbridge would dare take her case.

And even if some out-of-town lawyer took it, Adrian would ensure the suit never made it to court, and his legal team would crush them anyway.

But Isabel was at her wit's end.

She had thought Adrian, who loathed their forced marriage, would jump at the chance to divorce her.

Yet it had been over half a month, and they were still stuck at the starting line.

No progress had been made.

Worse, he was convinced her desire for a divorce was just a tantrum, a game of hard-to-get, designed to make a public spectacle.

Her threat just now felt like she was shooting herself in the foot.

“Mr. Blackwell.” Isabel’s shoulders slumped in defeat. “Just tell me what you want,” she asked, her voice weary. “I’ll do it.”

Adrian’s reply was unchanged. “Clean this up.”

“...”

In the end, Isabel slammed the door and left.

She completely forgot about the dinner Martha had prepared for her.
